Jeremy Clarkson bans tellys, fruities and ‘complicated’ bathroom indicators in new pub

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he has bought a pub near his farm.

The Grand Tour presenter said everything at The Windmill will be grown in the UK to support local farmers. So it means coffee and Coca-Cola are off the menu at the boozer in the Cotswolds.

The ex-Top Gear host, 64, said: “I’m building a pub for people who are visiting, and that will support farmers. That’s the essence of it.”

He revealed he paid less than £1 million for the pub near Burford, Oxfordshire.

And the telly star has vowed to ban noisy tellys, fruit machines and “confusing” toilet signs.

But he admitted pals aren’t convinced he can be a good landlord, telling him the “evidence [suggests] it will be a total disaster”.

He said: “As one friend put it: “Owning a pub these days is even more daft than owning a farm. What’s next? You buying a cinema?”

Clarkson said he discovered there was “a famous dogging site” near the pub.

The broadcaster said: “I went to see West Oxfordshire district council, expecting no help at all, and blow me down, it was very happy to close the dogging site.

“So I was in business.”

He said he wants a “fun” pub with bar billiards, darts and a garden.

And a place he can go on a Sunday with his granddaughter for gammon, egg and chips.

Clarkson also admitted he found it tough to find the right pub before settling on The Windmill.

He confessed he could not buy his village pub – as “the locals would set fire to me”.
