‘Creepy’ new Labour advert urges voters to not ‘get up with Rishi’ on Friday

Labour has likened failing to vote to having a drunken one-night stand – with a “creepy” new campaign poster featuring a grinning Rishi Sunak in bed.

Party chiefs are worried that supporters may not show up on Thursday, with polls suggesting Labour is set for a comfortable majority. This morning Shadow Environment Secretary Steve Reed said this would be like waking up and finding the PM smiling at you.

Making the grim analogy to reporters on the campaign trail, Mr Reed said: “The Conservatives are trying to pull a trick. They’re trying to tell people the election is already over and their hope is that people will not go out and vote…”

Warning against this he said: “It would be like after one of those terrible nights out where you’ve drunk too much and wake up with a hangover. You turn over in bed and what do you see smiling back at you but this face.

“We’re warning people – don’t run the risk of waking up with Rishi Sunak on the morning of July 5. If you want change you’ve got to vote for it.” The new campaign posters shows a Photoshopped picture of Mr Sunak with his head on a pillow alongside the word: “Don’t wake up to 5 more years of the Tories.”

It got a mixed response when it was shared on social media, along with the words: “Change will only happen if you vote for it.” One Twitter/X user wrote: “This is creepy AF”. Another said: “I can’t be dealing with seeing this first thing on a Monday morning!” Both Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak are making their final push to undecided voters as the election campaign reaches its final week. Mr Starmer is the overwhelming favourite to become Prime Minister on Friday.
