New map reveals the place celebration leaders went on General Election marketing campaign path

The Prime Minister as well as the leaders of the Labour and Liberal Democrats have focused visits on Conservative seats new data reveals.

As the election enters its final days, the main party leaders have continued their efforts on seats the Conservatives are defending. But they are not all marginals though with some having massive Tory majorities at the last election.

Rishi Sunak has visited 54 constituencies during the campaign up to July 2, according to research by the Press Association and Reach Data Unit. A total of 46 of those voted Conservative at the last general election, 10 of which have notional majorities of over 20,000.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, has visited 47 constituencies on his fun-filled tour of the country. Some 42 of those voted Conservative in the last election.

Sir Keir Starmer, meanwhile, has visited 51 constituencies, 38 of which voted Tory last time around. None of the Labour leader’s visits were to Tory seats with 20,000-plus majorities, but he did visit six constituencies with majorities over 15,000. You can see where the three main party leaders have been visiting by using our interactive map.

The South East of England has seen by far the most visits by the three main party leaders. Almost a quarter (23%) of the visits have been in the region, 36 in total. The South West has seen the next highest share at 14% (22 visits), followed by London with 11% (17 visits).

By contrast, just 3% of visits have been made to the North East – five in total. Wales has received just 4% of visits (six in total), Yorkshire and the Humber 5% (eight in total), and the North West 7% (11 in total). There has only been one visit to Northern Ireland, but the three main parties don’t field candidates there. You can see the number of visits each leader has made to each region using our interactive map.
