Footage has emerged showing a fan being punched and kicked by a group of stewards during Portugal’s last-16 victory over Slovenia at Euro 2024.

Roberto Martinez’s side booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory – where Slovenia missed all three of their efforts.

The match ended 0-0 after 120 minutes of action but Portugal did have a golden opportunity to score when they were awarded a penalty during extra-time.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to convert and watched on as Slovenia’s Jan Oblak produced a stunning save to keep the scores level in Germany.

Now the dust has settled on the victory, a video on X has emerged to show a fan attacked by stewards when the late penalty was awarded.

In the video, a fan can be seen being held against a wall by a group of stewards and repeatedly punched in the head before falling to the ground.

Then, when on the floor, multiple stewards begin kicking him and throwing punches towards the supporter.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the video, another fan appears to be apprehended and held down by one security guard as the brutal attack took place.

Throughout the video, other fans can be heard shouting loudly – presumably in an attempt to stop the stewards from attacking the supporter.

A frustrating evening saw Ronaldo desperately try to score, with his spot-kick effort in extra-time forcing a stunning save from Oblak who tipped the shot onto the post.

Ronaldo was unable to keep his emotions in check after being denied and burst into tears as Portugal manager Martinez rallied his squad for a team talk.

His mother, Maria, was also seen crying in the stands as she watched on helplessly and unable to offer her superstar son any comfort or words of encouragement.

The 39-year-old sobbed uncontrollably as he was consoled by team-mates after his miss as the former Euro 2016 champions attempted to rally for the second-half of extra-time.

Ronaldo later revealed that Euro 2024 will be his last time appearing in the competition, as he enters the twilight of his esteemed career.

‘It is without a doubt my last European Championship,’ Ronaldo said, via Portuguese outlet O Jogo.  ‘But I don’t get emotional about that, I get emotional about everything that football involves.

‘Because of the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm of seeing my supporters, my family, the affection that people have for me. It’s not about leaving football, because if I do, what else would I need to do or win?

‘It won’t be about getting one more point or one less point. Making people happy is what motivates me the most.’
