Jay Slater’s dad discloses the place son ‘could have been heading’ when he vanished

The devastated father of missing Jay Slater has revealed where he thinks his son was heading when he vanished in Tenerife.

Warren Slater believes his son may have been heading towards the sea when he called his friends to say he was walking back to their rental property.

He has continued to search for his son in the mountains of Tenerife since the Spanish police official called off the search on Sunday (June 30).

Tenerife police were searching from June 17 for the missing 19-year-old with an immense team of drones, sniffer dogs, helicopters, police, firefighters and volunteers. However, they called the search off after failing to find any trace of the British teenager.

His father expressed his deep frustration to the Manchester Evening News (MEN) about the search and their inability to find him.

He said: “I’ve done this trail now twice. Every step I’ve took there’s been an opening.

Jay Slater has been missing for almost three weeks

“If you land on one of those cactus’ you’re not moving. Surely somebody’s gonna find you after two weeks.”

When asked by the MEN whether his lad might have been heading towards the sea on the morning he vanished, Warren said: “Maybe.”

He added: “He said: “I’ve gone past the sadness bit and I’m angry, if that makes any sense.

“I’m angry that nothing’s happened. If I left you here and then you just disappeared, do you not think police would be on my case?”

After nearly three weeks, nothing has changed in the facts of the case. All police know is that Jay Slater left a rave in southern Tenerife with two men in the early hours of June 17. He then drove up north to the treacherous Masca region which he attempted to leave their Airbnb rental at around 8am that morning.

Jay was seen at a bus stop where he asked a local when the next bus to Los Cristianos, the area where his friends were staying, was. When she told him it was an hour away, he walked away in an attempt to walk back south. That was the last time he was seen.

Police, locals and journalists have described the area where Jay went missing as extremely dangerous. Its rocky terrain and steep ravines make it infamously difficult to walk safely there, but Jay’s father remains deeply frustrated that police have been unable to find his son within the countryside.
