Noel Gallagher assaults ‘virtue-signalling’ acts at Glastonbury

Noel Gallagher has attacked ‘virtue-signalling’ acts at Glastonbury, criticising them for ‘waving flags around’ instead of focusing on the music.

Though Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds didn’t perform at this year’s festival, the singer-songwriter 57, was still in attendance.

Several acts rubbed Noel the wrong way, with the rocker appearing to particularly take aim at Dua Lipa’s support for Palestine and Banksy‘s migrant dinghy protest.

Noel spent his time at Glastonbury with Matt Smith, an actor, and was seen enjoying performances by Jungle and Kneecap.

Explaining his feelings, about his time at Worthy Farm, Noel told The Sun: ‘Don’t get me wrong, I f***ing love Glastonbury. I think it’s one of the most important things. In fact it’s probably the best f***ing thing about Britain apart from the Premier League.

‘It’s getting a bit woke now, that place, and a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling. I don’t like it in music — little f***ing idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying: “Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. F***k the Tories man,” and all that.

Noel added: ‘I guess if you’re 18 and you’re middle class you might have a problem with it. But what’s all the kids in a field at Glastonbury going to do about it? Everybody knows what’s going on in the f***ing world, you’ve got a phone in your pocket that tells you anyway. What is the point of virtue-signalling?’

The former Oasis star also bumped into old foe David Grohl.

Noel explained they came as close as 3ft apart and that the Foo Fighters frontman was staying at the same hotel he was.

He insisted all he wanted was for Dave to stop talking about Oasis and added that Dave was friend’s with his child.

The pair fell out when Dave, who previously drummed for Nirvana, distastefully compared Noel’s and his younger brother Liam’s success.

Dave told QMRQ: ‘It’s over. If it was a competition, it’s over. Liam is selling out massive stadiums, number one hits, huge albums.

‘All the kids want to be him. I loved Oasis, but nobody wants to be Noel, do they? I’m in a great band but even I want to be Liam.’

According to The Sun, Liam’s son Gene, 22, – whose mother is Nicole Appleton – ignored Noel when they were both spotted at a VIP bar at Glastonbury, despite just being yards apart.

A source said: ‘Noel and Gene clocked each other but kept well apart. It was quite sad to see given they are so closely related but there is still a lot of bad blood between Noel and Liam.’
