England keeper Aaron Ramsdale instructed to stop Arsenal after Euros by Gunners legend
David Seaman believes unsettled Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale must move to reboot his career.
The England stopper, 26, was dropped by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta last season after four league games – and never won his place back from preferred Spanish rival David Raya. Raya, initially signed on a loan from Brentford, is set to become a permanent £27million acquisition later this month.
All of which, according to Seaman, leaves Ramsdale no choice but to find himself a new club once he returns from European Championship duty as Jordan Pickford’s Three Lions understudy. Although he wishes Ramsdale could stay put – for the club’s sake – the ex-Arsenal and England keeper appreciates why he cannot afford to waste another year out of favour.

The Highbury legend, who made 543 Gunners appearances from 1990 to 2003, declared: “I’ve always said Aaron is too good to be a number two. He’s a fantastic player. He needs to play. Wherever that is, I don’t know.
“It’s a weird situation. Ideally, you’d love him to stay because that would be great for the club. But he needs to move for his career. And that includes England because, if he’s not playing, he’ll keep dropping down the pecking order with them.”

The Gunners paid Sheffield United £24million for the former-Bournemouth keeper three years ago and want to recoup close to that should they decide to sell in the current window. Newcastle and Chelsea have been suggested as possible destinations but so far there have been no firm offers.
Seaman, though, is certain Arsenal will not stand in Ramsdale’s way by demanding huge money, thanks to the fact the player has remained loyal and never caused trouble during a difficult period on the sidelines.
“I think they’ll be fair to him because he’s been fair to the club,” added Seaman, 60, who won three league titles and eight trophies in all during his glittering career in N5.
“He’s been great, a fantastic servant to the club throughout his Arsenal career, although it’s been a really short one.”
