F1 workforce McLaren signal Armed Forces covenant with UK Ministry of Defence
One of the world’s best-known racing teams and car manufacturers are racing ahead with a new commitment to members of the Armed Forces community.
Just days before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. This is a promise by the nation that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
The British racing company become the latest in a long line of respected organisations to confirm their pledge to support serving Armed Forces reservists, veterans and military families. McLaren already qualifies as an Armed Forces Friendly company by employing former military personnel and serving reservists – collectively known as the McLaren Military Network.
Veterans will also have access to healthcare, including a free 24/7 virtual GP service and employer-paid Private Medical cover.
Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer, McLaren Racing, said: “We want to set the standard for high performance in sport, and that starts with our people. Building a diverse workforce is key to achieving that, which is why we’re proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. In 2023, 45% of our new starters came from underrepresented backgrounds, which was up 6% from 2022. We hope to continue welcoming and supporting former military personnel at McLaren Racing who bring with them valuable experience and knowledge.”
