Jay Slater’s household launch new search as uncle compares it to Madeleine McCann

The uncle of missing British teenager Jay Slater has compared the disappearance to that of Madeleine McCann.

The search by Guardia Civil was officially called off over the weekend, nearly two weeks after he went missing. The Lancashire lad was reported missing in Tenerife on June 17 after he called his friend Lucy, telling her he was lost in a rural area of the island with only 1% battery left on his phone.

His last known location was half a mile north of Masca village. Despite efforts by emergency workers, including the Civil Guard, mountain rescue team and fire crews, the challenging terrain of the Rural de Teno park was proving difficult to search – with it officially ending over a week ago.

However, the family has now announced that a new search will begin . . . with Jay’s uncle making a very stark comparison.

Glen Duncan, said: “We’ve just been out with some Spanish volunteers. They’ve been through it by foot and the dogs, there’s obviously been areas searched by helicopter and drones. For me, he’s not up here. That’s what I get the impression of.

“Who knows what the police are doing out here, who knows? They’re not really in touch, it’s all a bit sketchy. They don’t give anything away. I was close to Jay. He was just a typical, great young lad with a massive circle of friends who loved the good time. He was looking forward to coming here. First lads holiday, we’ve all been there, haven’t we?

Jay's uncle compared it to the Madeleine McCann hunt

“We’re still holding onto hope – we have to because we don’t know. He’s not been found so you’ve got to cling on. I’m sure Madeleine McCann’s parents still cling onto that hope. that she’s somewhere on the other side of the world 20 years later. She’s never been found and there’s no proof of whatever has happened to her. It’s so treacherous down there. Look at the state of me. I’m not a climber, I’m not a hiker.”

Despite help from TikTok sleuths and other local volunteers, the search for Jay has so far proven to be fruitless – but it appears as though the family has not yet given up.
