Sick trolls make identical Jay Slater jokes as England face Spain after Euro triumph

Trolls came out in force to make the same vile joke moments after Ollie Watkins scored a dramatic winner to set up a Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.

The gag was in relation to missing Jay Slater who vanished after a night out at the Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife, on June 17.

His heartbroken family are still in the Canary Islands desperately searching for answers – but some folk poked fun at the mystery case last night.

Ollie Watkins shooting for England
Ollie Watkins scored a dramatic winner for England against the Netherlands

This came after England’s 2-1 semi-final win against the Netherlands and stand up comedian Adam Rowe tweeted: “Winner gets Jay Slater, I reckon.”

One person replied to say the final between England and Spain on Sunday (July 14) was the ‘Jay Slater derby’ while another sarcastically said: “Cracking joke lad haven’t heard that one already.”

That’s because the same gag was used several times on X (formerly Twitter) with one user, who described herself as the ‘queen of getting suspended’, added: “SPAIN VS ENGLAND WINNER GETS TO KEEP JAY SLATER.”

Another person joked: “Jay Slater is going to walk out and present England with the Euros trophy isn’t he.”

One parody character, with the username @Pu55yman_Dan, set up a GoFundMe page to ‘help fund emergency meeting to find Jason Slater.”

Writing to their 64,7000 followers, they said: “Please help me attend the meeting this weekend. Got a meeting with Spanish police in Berlin because it’s too warm in Magaluf. Please donate to a good cause.”

On the GoFundMe page itself, which has since been deleted, a message wrote: “This can not wait. It’s on Sunday. Please donate I need to be there. Not been to the toilet all day.”

One anonymous account added on X: “All of England singing ‘it’s coming home’ but honestly, there’s a better chance of Jay Slater making a comeback.”

The desperate search for Jay, 19, is now into its fourth week and the latest update came when a TikTok sleuth claimed the teenage bricklayer apprentice had ‘had a fall and is still there’ – but the search was a ‘needle in a haystack’.
