Former head of police watchdog denies raping 14-year-old woman

The former head of the police watchdog yesterday denied raping a girl of 14.

Michael Lockwood told of his shock after he was accused of abusing two teenage girls, saying the allegations forced him to quit his job as Director General of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Lockwood, 65, denies raping a 14-year-old girl in the storeroom of a leisure centre near Hull, where he was working as a lifeguard 40 years ago.

He also denies indecently assaulting a girlfriend eight times when she was aged 14-15 and he was in his 20s.

Yesterday he told the Old Bailey: ‘I would never ever have engaged in sexual activity, sexual intercourse with someone under 16. I would never take advantage of anyone.’

The trial continues.
