Jay Slater’s mum shares how GoFundMe money is to be spent as assertion issued

Crowd-funded cash raised to help find Jay Slater is being used to bring more experts out to Tenerife to join the missing teen’s family in their desperate search.

The 19-year-old from Lancashire has been missing for almost a month after disappearing without a trace on Monday, June 16.

Shortly after Jay vanished, his friend Lucy Law, whom he went to the island with, set up a GoFundMe page to support search efforts, and has so far raised £52,880.

Jay’s desperate mum, Debbie, has revealed that part of this sum has been funnelled into their privately-funded search, as Spanish authorities called off their search after two weeks of combing the countryside and finding no clue of the apprentice bricklayer.

She added that a specialist team from the Netherlands have been flown out to the Spanish island, along with specialist dogs.

Debbie, 55, said: “As you all know the Guardia Civil gave up the land search after 12 days.

“We have been actively working with search and rescue teams and we can now confirm that we have a team of experts flying in over the weekend from the Netherlands, who will carry on the search with their specialist dogs.

“We are only able to fund this with the generosity of all those who donated.

“The team are the Signi Zoekhondon and this has taken lots of planning to get them over so thank you so much for your kindness.”

The mum-of-two and school finance officer previously said that fundraised money was being used to fly supporters to Tenerife, as well as cover some of their own expenses.

This comes as Debbie gave a heartbreaking update on the hunt for her missing son.

She said: “As we approach four weeks of our beautiful Jay’s disappearance, we cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family. Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him.

“This month will mark the end of his three year apprenticeship with the world at his feet. He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends.”

She then thanked the public, the police, consular services and charity LBT Global for their support before hitting back at the savage trolls who have been plaguing her, Jay’s families and friends, since the lad disappeared, with online abuse and bogus theories.

Debbie said: “We would also like to say that we are aware of the awful comments and conspiracy theories that are filling social media. These theories are hindering the people trying to help us in their investigations here in Tenerife and are vile to see as a family.

“He is a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to so many. He is such a popular boy this and is very distressing for us all to read.‌”
