Jordan Henderson drives eight hours to observe England vs Spain

Jordan Henderson has driven all the way over from Amsterdam to watch his former international colleagues’ date with destiny here in Berlin.

The Ajax midfielder, who was left out of the England for Euro 2024, struggled to get flights to Germany’s capital so has taken matters into his own hands by jumping in a hire van to get here with his young children to support Gareth Southgate‘s side.

It took the former Liverpool captain around eight hours to get here on the road but was determined to cheer his England team-mates on.

Henderson has been one of the most important figures in Southgate’s reign as England head coach and his omission from the Euros squad arrived as a shock.

He won the last of his 81 caps against Malta in November.

Speaking last week, Kyle Walker – who replaced Henderson as England vice captain – told talkSPORT: ‘I have heard some of them are coming out to support us which shows great credit to them as individuals.

‘Obviously, not being here is a big disappointment but that shows you the togetherness that we have where they still want to come and want to come and support us.

‘I know a lot of players would be sitting sulking thinking ‘I wish I was there’, but they want to come and share the moment and if we win. I am sure they will be in the dressing room afterwards celebrating as they deserve it and have been part of it.’
