Johnson and Trump engaged in talks for roughly half an hour, according to reports.

Following their discussion, the ex-Tory leader issued a statement on social media, featuring a photograph of him and Trump, whose right ear was bandage, giving a thumbs up.

Johnson said: ‘It was great to see President Trump, who is on superb form following the appalling attempt on his life. I noted the courage, resilience and sheer indomitability with which he has responded.

‘We discussed Ukraine at length and I know that he will give the strong and decisive leadership necessary to protect democracy against aggression.’

Johnson also spoke on a panel about the elections, accompanied by Conway who served as an adviser during Trump’s presidency.

Only a few dozen people came to hear their talk, The Mirror reported, despite more than 50,000 people having been due in Milwaukee for the RNC.

In addition to Johnson and Truss, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who was elected Clacton MP during the UK’s General Election earlier this month, is also due to attend the convention.

Farage is expected to travel to the US on Wednesday after after the King’s Speech in Parliament.

The RNC is now in its second day, with Trump officially as its presidential nominee and US Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate.

The presidential hopeful appeared at the convention Monday night, breaking cover for the first time since he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday during his campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

He was bleeding from the head after the barrage of bullets flew through the air, one having ‘pierced’ his ear, when Secret Service agents gave the go-ahead that it was safe to move from the stage.

But Trump was heard telling his agents, who had encircled him in a protective bubble and helped him to his feet, ‘wait, wait, wait!’

The former president, his face smeared with blood, forced his right fist through a tangle of agents’ arms. He raised it high into the air before pumping his fist.

‘Fight!’ he mouthed to the crowd and cameras as he pumped his arm sharply three times, in a sign of undeniable defiance and assurance that he was OK.

The gesture sent the crowd cheering, with many rising to their feet.

‘We gotta move, we gotta move!’ an agent shouted.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner after the assassination attempt, Trump said that when he looked up and saw that the crowd hadn’t left, he felt he needed to offer assurance and project strength.

‘The energy coming from the people there in that moment, they just stood there. It’s hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking, I knew that history would judge this and I knew I had to let them know we are OK,’ he said.

Seeking again to reassure voters he remains robust despite the near-miss, Trump’s team announced he will address a campaign rally this upcoming Saturday afternoon – just one week on from the attack – with his new vice presidential pick.

Trump received a rapt ovation on Monday evening when he appeared with a bandage on his right ear signaling how close he came to losing his life when a lone shooter on a roof fired at him.

Saturday’s rally will be their first chance to lay out the Trump-Vance campaign message in person.

Given the shocking events of a week earlier, the Trump appearance – and the level of security at the rally – will be closely watched.
