I attempted world’s strongest vitality drink – it fired me up however not how I anticipated

I tried the strongest energy drink in the world ahead of its launch today – what happened next was not what I expected at all.

You’ll probably recognise the name TENZING from browsing your local supermarket fridge for a drink to complete your meal deal. The brand prides itself on using only natural products to provide an alternative boost to the knackered among us.

As someone who very, very rarely indulges in energy drinks, I put my hand up in the name of journalism to give TENZING’S limited edition Super Natural Energy a whirl.

There was a time, long ago, when I relied on cracking open a can full of caffeine and goodness knows what in the middle of the night to keep me stringing words together in the university library. Tesco’s Blue Spark will forever hold a place in my nostalgic heart.

Behold the ultra secure packaging

Thankfully those days are well behind me and I instead get my hits from a good old-fashioned coffee, typically a couple a day but who’s counting? I say all this to make clear I am no connoisseur of the energy drink variety. If you’re looking for someone with this specific set of skills, I imagine strolling around GAME or Cex would be a good place to start.

Just look at those four terrifying cans

So let’s crunch the numbers for a moment, just how strong is the world’s strongest energy drink? If you take a standard energy drink for example, we’re looking at it being loaded with around 30mg of caffeine. In a cup of coffee? 40mg. TENZING’s latest concoction dwarfs such figures with 200mg of caffeine from green coffee beans. Pardon my French but bloody hell, reading that before crowbarring open the drink stash did little to fill me with confidence for what was to come.

Definitely not scared of the consequences…

TENZING CEO and founder Huib van Bockel has described the drink launch as an “epic moment”. Adding: “We are taking things to the next level and continuing our disruptive spirit by creating the world’s first energy drink infused with functional fungi, showing the real power of plants.”

After conquering the theatrical challenge of getting into the wooden box, waiting for me were four tins lit up from the inside, ready for the taking. Trepidation didn’t last long once I raised my first glass of the stuff to my nose, suddenly everything was looking up as the punchy smell of mango and ginger wrestled my senses from a trembling state of fear.

Here goes nothing

One sip in and I thought I must be missing something here, what aftertaste am I about to be wiped out with? Surely a drink so powerful couldn’t taste so good? But that secondary kick of flavour never came and I found myself swigging back the glass like it was ginger beer.

TENZING describes the drink as being fiery and fiery it most certainly is. As my mouth pleasantly heated up, my attention soon turned to what would follow. For a short but sweet moment in time, I had forgotten why I was sipping away on camera. Braced to suddenly experience a surge of energy that would send me bouncing from wall to wall, it’s safe to say that never happened.

Wait, it actually tastes really, really good?

Not to gloat or anything but I took it like a champ. My heart wasn’t accelerated, my head wasn’t spinning and my hands remained very much still. I certainly didn’t suffer fatigue any time soon, nor did a crash hit me like a brick wall. My afternoon continued as normal until it was time to hit the hay which went down without a hitch.

Concerned my Saturday noon experience wasn’t enough for true analysis, cos science, I went again the next morning to see how effective the drink is as a pre-workout. Again much the same, sadly it proved not to be a magic performance-enhancing potion in the gym but it certainly didn’t do any harm.

I think the worrying thing for me is just how well I took so much caffeine, good luck everyone else.
