Jay Slater’s physique confirmed as court docket says fingerprints are his

The body found during a search yesterday has been confirmed as that of Jay Slater, court officials confirm.

According to a court spokesman, the body has been examined in a post-mortem and it is Jay Slater’s. They also said that the injuries suffered were compatible with a “fall from a cliff,” as had been speculated by Guardia Civil yesterday.

They added that the body showed “trauma consistent with a fall in a rocky area”.

It comes after the Civil Guard say they carried out an “incessant and discreet search” away from “curious onlookers” – despite announcing they’d called their search off after 12 days. And now a court in the town of Icod de los Vinos, which covers the area of Masca where the body was found, is in charge of the ongoing investigation.

The 19-year-old went missing on June 17 after attending the three-day NRG Festival in Tenerife. Yesterday (July 15), human remains were discovered in an “inaccessible area” of Masca, close to where the teenager’s phone last pinged. While formal identification is yet to place, officers say the body was found with Jay’s possessions and clothes.

Lancashire Police has also said it was supporting the family following the heartbreaking update. A spokesperson said: “We have today (Monday, July 15) been notified by the Guardia Civil that they have found the body of a man and that the indications are that this is Jay Slater. While at this stage no formal identification has been carried out our thoughts are very much with Jay’s family at this time, and we continue to offer them our support.”

The confirmation comes just hours after it was claimed that it could take “time” to identify him because they body was “very deteriorated”.

A spokesman said earlier today: ““But there is very little doubt about both the identity and the etiology. The documentation he was carrying corresponds to that of Jay Slater and everything is pointing to an accidental fall, although that is unofficial pending the final reports.”
