Novak Djokovic’s gesture to Kate Middleton at Wimbledon showed his true stripes

Novak Djokovic had a touching tribute to Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.

The Serbian star, 37, was thumped by Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, losing 6-2 6-2 7-6 in the men’s singles Wimbledon final smackdown on Centre Court.

It’s deja vu for Djokovic, as the young Spanish ace has done him over for the second year on the trot in the Grand Slam showdown, having nicked a five-set belter off him back in 2023.

After bouncing back from knee surgery post-French Open, the 37-year-old made it to his 10th Wimbledon final but was outplayed by a blinding performance from Alcaraz.

Djokovic ended up taking the runners-up medal home again, with Kate, the top brass of the All England Club, doing the honours handing out the silverware. And he was happy to see the Princess, who has been out of the public eye due to her battle with cancer.

“Yes, it was of course a privilege to be in her presence again,” Djokovic gushed in his press conference when quizzed about his chat with Kate. “I’ve said to her that it is very nice to see her in good health. She seems to be in good health.”, reports the Mirror.

“That’s obviously very positive news for everyone in this country but also for Wimbledon, for Championships to have Her Royal Highness here, of course with her family members. It’s amazing. It’s incredible support they’ve been giving over the years to this tournament.

“I know that she and her sister have played tennis for a very long time. So they truly respect, admire the game. They also understand tennis, which is great. It’s wonderful to have that kind of support from the Royal Family.”
