Marcus Rashford’s excuse for rushing previous cop at 100mph in £540k Rolls-Royce
Marcus Rashford claimed he thought he was being followed by a mystery car when he overtook police at 100mph.
The Manchester United and England striker was at the wheel of his £540,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Blue Shadow when he shot past an unmarked patrol car on the M60. The detective driving the unliveried police BMW X5 had to speed up to try and catch the 24-year-old forward.
A court today heard how the officer reached speeds of ‘no less than 104mph’ on the motorway. But he reported how the gap between the two cars still increased and the Rolls-Royce pulled further away, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Prosecutors said Rashford left the motorway and headed along the A34 towards Wilmslow in Cheshire shortly after half past midnight on Tuesday, December 12 last year, but was followed by the officer. The officer spotted a change in Rashford’s driving, with his Rolls-Royce slowing down, leaving the A34, and then rejoining it.
But when the car came to a halt, the officer activated his emergency lights near a roundabout, before speaking to the Red Devils forward, who confirmed his identity. Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court heard he told the officer he believed he was being followed “by a white vehicle at the lights”.
When the officer said he should have called the police if he thought he was being pursued, the police officer said Rashford replied “it happens all the time and he would be calling us every day”. Magistrates were told police reviewed CCTV footage and could not see any white vehicle.
An officer later visited Rashford’s Wilmslow home and posted a ‘notice of intended prosecution’ for a speeding offence. In a statement to the court, the officer said: “Rashford said that the reason he was speeding was because he was being followed by a white vehicle and asked if I had seen it at the lights.
“He also said he thought that I was the white vehicle following him. I said I had not and would review the video footage from the vehicle. I also told him he needs to call 999 if he feels he is being followed, he said it happens all the time and that he would be calling us every day. I then told him to slow down, and he went on his way whilst I reviewed the footage.
“On reviewing the footage due the duration from when he overtook me up until stopping him on Eden Park Road, I have not seen any evidence of a white vehicle following him. I also noted that on realising he was being followed he has slowed down and his speed was within 5mph of the speed limit.”
Rashford, who appeared in court via video link, was banned from driving for six months and fined £1,666. District Judge Lucy Hogarth ordered him to pay a £666 victim surcharge and £120 in court costs after he had earlier pleaded guilty to a single speeding offence.
The speeding incident came just three months after he crashed a different Rolls-Royce last year. United players had returned to their Carrington training base on the team bus following their Premier League victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
After collecting their own cars and setting off for home Rashford, in one of his £700,000 Rolls-Royce cars, was involved in a smash with another car. Emergency services attended the scene, but Rashford did not require medical attention and no arrests were made.
Rashford owns several Rolls-Royce cars, including a £390,000 Black Badge Cullinan and a Cullinan Blue Shadow. He also reportedly owns a £280,000 McLaren 765 Long Tail and a £350,000 Lamborghini Urus Performante.
