Good new for Spoons’ followers as ‘money solely’ meltdown over – however some nonetheless aggravated
Good news everyone, the Wetherspoons weekend is back on. People thought their all-dayer hopes were smashed as the popular pub company moved to a cash-only system.
That came after businesses around the world were affected by Microsoft’s outage yesterday (19 July), including NHS, banks, airports and tv channels.
Many took to social media to air dismay at the prospect of not being able to enjoy a refreshing pint in the sunshine.
One user took to X to air his misery, saying: “Oh is THAT why Wetherspoons is in chaos this morning. App down. Cash only. Kitchen screens blank. People are surviving on their wits out here.”
While another added: “This is bloody serious, the Wetherspoons app is down.”
Thank the lord, that doesn’t seem to be the case any more.

This was after the ‘end of days’ following the tech crash. There was some reports of some pubs being closed while the issue was being fixed.
But, some were glad to see pubs return to their old ‘cash only’ ways instead of ordering from an app or QR code, with an X user commenting: “It also forces people to physically go up to the bar like a normal human instead of just using the app (which I am guilty of sometimes).”
Meanwhile, others saw the potential positives of the worldwide technical glitch with Bryce writing on X yesterday: “This Microsoft fumble has completely bricked our systems at work. Weathers absolutely beautiful, proper pint weather and it’s a Friday… hopefully an early finish is on the cards.”
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons told the Mail Online that the app was only down ‘for a short time’ but the problem was now fixed.
A cyber security company from the US have claimed that they are the ones at fault for Microsoft’s woes yesterday.
George Kurtz, the CEO of the company said: “We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on.”
