Police stopped ‘ISIS terror plot’ forward of England’s Euro 2024 closing
Police officers managed to stop an ‘ISIS terror plot’ ahead of England’s Euro 2024 final in Berlin after completing a series of raids which saw three suspects detained.
German special forces managed to successfully foil the attack after fears it would take place at the Three Lions fan zone in Breitscheidplatz ahead of England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain last Sunday.
Police carried out a series of co-ordinated raids in nearby Potsdam, as they looked for five men who were said to be known IS supporters.
The men, already under German police surveillance, had been photographed on phones at Breitscheidplatz and a nearby large church.
A spokesperson for Berlin Police told The Sun on Sunday: ‘The homes of three men were searched at three addresses in Potsdam.

‘Forces from the special task forces were involved in the operation.
‘The measures were carried out in connection with an immediate threat from the Islamist spectrum.’
The suspects were believed to be under surveillance in the days leading up to the final and have since been released under investigation.
In 2016, 12 people were killed and 56 badly injured after jihadists drove a truck into a Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz.
The recent revelation comes as Olympic officials have heightened security ahead of the summer games in Paris, which begin on Friday.
British police officers will be among the 45,000 patrolling the streets of the French capital over the course of the two week event.
Last month, IS terrorists threatened attacks on the city during the games, posting a propaganda image showing one of its terrorists flying an armed drone into the Eiffel Tower.
In response, central parts around the Seine, including the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, are already shut to vehicles.
Some 130 people have already been prevented from entering the country, as part of France’s terrorist watch list.
