Ryanair passengers to get “materially lower” fares over peak summer season months
Brits are set to enjoy cheaper summer holidays after Ryanair revealed airfares will be “materially lower” than last year.
It comes as the budget airline reported plummeting quarterly profits. Ryanair said prices over spring pushed profits down 46% to £303 million for the three months to June.
Its chief executive Michael O’Leary said: “While (second-quarter) demand is strong, pricing remains softer than we expected, and we now expect (second-quarter) fares to be materially lower than last summer.”

The average ticket price fell 15% to £35 year-on-year, while passenger numbers rose 10% to 55.5 million.
Experts say holidaymakers are waiting longer than usual to go on their summer jollies due to the cost-of-living crisis.
Earlier this month, Jet2 said there would only be “modest” price increases this summer amid a wave of later bookings to its European destinations.
Lufthansa also pointed to “negative market trends”, while Air France-KLM warned fewer people than expected booked flights to Paris for the Olympic Games.
Elsewhere, millions of us might be persuaded to book a late holiday abroad this summer due to the dismal weather, research found.
Travel agents group ABTA said it is urging sunseekers to consider a last-minute trip overseas.
More than a quarter of adults said they would be tempted to book if they can get a good deal to somewhere hot, while one in five would jet off purely to escape the dreary UK weather.
It comes after Met Office figures show that the UK has just had its wettest spring since 1986.
ABTA director of communications Graeme Buck said: “While many people will already have a summer holiday to look forward to, our data suggests that a significant proportion might book a late deal – particularly if the UK’s washout summer continues and they can find a well-priced break delivering some much-needed vitamin D.
“Whether looking for a quick weekend away or a couple of weeks in the sun, we’d encourage anyone who is thinking of booking a last-minute holiday this summer to speak to their local ABTA travel agent or tour operator.”
The poll also found the Scots are the keenest to swap the rain for sunnier shores.
