Irish woman fell to loss of life from balcony ‘whereas her dad and mom had been asleep’
An 11-year-old Irish girl who died after plunging 65ft from a Majorca hotel balcony ‘while her parents were asleep’ has been pictured for the first time.
Tributes have poured in for Clodagh Phelan, from County Wicklow, after she fell from the seventh floor of the three-star Club Mac resort, in Puerto de Alcudia at around 6:30am on Monday morning.
The youngster’s relatives were said to be sleeping when she went out on to the terrace and leaned over the railing before tumbling down onto the roof of a first-floor restaurant below.
Paramedics and other emergency responders dashed to the hotel and attempted to revive the young girl but she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed to Irish media this morning that they are treating Clodagh’s death as an accident.
Writing on X, Prime Minister of Ireland Taoiseach Simon Harris said there was so much ‘promise and personality snatched away in a terrible accident.’

Clodagh’s athletics club Parnell AC also paid touching tribute to the young athlete.
It said: ‘Parnell A.C. are truly heartbroken to share the devastating news of the passing of Clodagh Phelan, one of our juvenile athletes and friend to many of our younger athletes.
‘Clodagh tragically passed away following an accident on holidays. Clodagh was a beautiful, spirited child and a great athlete who excelled in many sports, not just athletics.
‘Her family Valerie, Liam, Will, and David and extended family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
‘As a mark of respect and to allow us all time to grieve the loss of Clodagh, there will be no training until further notice.’
Rathdrum Rugby Club said its members were ‘stunned by the tragic news of the passing of our dear club star’.
In a statement, the club said that Clodagh was ‘a rare talent with an outstanding future ahead of her’.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and we will support them in every way,’ it added.
The family at the centre of the tragedy were believed to have been planning to return home yesterday.
Following the tragedy, a regional emergency coordination centre offered the youngster’s family trauma counsellors.
One well-placed insider yesterday said: ‘The girl who died was one of three children.
‘The family were due to return to Ireland today.
‘The youngster’s parents were sleeping when she fell and had no idea what had happened until afterwards.’
The tragedy comes just weeks after Irish physiotherapist Michael Grant died suddenly while on holiday in Magaluf.
The 45-year-old, form Waterford, was found unresponsive close to the resort’s notorious Punta Bellena strip that is packed with late-night bars, nightclubs and lap dancing joints at around 4:30am.
Mr Grant was on holiday in Magaluf with his wife Leanne and their four children and other families from Ireland when the tragedy took place.
