Jay Slater sleuths lose it over tragic merchandise noticed in ravine the place teen died

Jay Slater sleuths were choked up after spotting a poignant item laid among floral tributes marking the spot where his body was found.

The rocky and “inaccessible” area of Masca near to where the teenager’s mobile phone last pinged has become a memorial shrine for the Lancashire 19-year-old.

But among the blue and white flowers, ribbons, messages and photographs of happier times tucked among the rocks, lies a single bottle of water.

The image captioned: “How sad, the poor kid…I just can’t. RIP Jay mate,” sparked a flurry of comments on social media.

One person said: “Seeing the water bottle proper got me.”

Another added: “The water bottle hit hard,” as one agreed: “That broke me too.”

While another commented: “This is the saddest photograph I’ve seen…the water bottle,” in a post that was followed by a row of crying face emojis.

“Omg the water bottle, it’s heartbreaking,” said another.

Others suggested the water could have been for the flowers, while some were less sympathetic with one commenting: “Bit late for that now…what’s the point of the water. Idiots.”

Jay vanished on June 17 after attending the three-day NRG Festival during his first holiday abroad with friends to Tenerife.

His body was eventually discovered 29 days later on July 15. A preliminary autopsy points to the cause of death being “a fall or plunge from height due to the broken bones he suffered.”

Meanwhile, Jay’s family are getting ready to fly the teenager home. A GoFundMe page raked in over £70,000 to help “give him the send off he deserves.”
