Brit vacationer jumps into Tenerife fountain for 20 euro wager – locals had been seething
A Brit tourist has angered locals by jumping into a Canary Islands fountain for a 20 euro bet.
Dressed in red shorts and white sliders, the bare-chested lad dove into the grand Fountain of the Americas in the Safari Centre, in Tenerife, as his mates filmed.
In the clip, which was posted to TikTok, the young Brit is seen psyching himself up for the cavalier stunt as his pals waved a 20 euro note in front of him.

The prankster can be seen taking a run-up to the fountain, past shoppers, before belly-flopping into the fountain causing a massive splash, as his mates encourage him and laugh on.
As the drenched Brit stands up in the fountain taking a victorious stance, a staff member grabs him by the arm and hauls him back over the fountain edge. A security guard then comes over to escort him away.
The lads’ prank has enraged locals, who are already fed up with poorly-behaved holidaymakers who jack up the cost of living for locals.

Island residents slammed the bloke as disrespectful, arguing he is an example of the type of tourist unwelcome in Tenerife, Canadian Weekly reports.
Some locals even commented that it was a shame the fountain wasn’t dry when the lad dove in, the paper also reports.
Spanish islands have been amping up their battle against rowdy, party-loving visitors, while they protest over-tourism, which campaigners claim has pushed locals out of affordable housing and into living in cars and tents, as well as driving down wages and causing significant environmental damage.

Canary Islands locals came out in the tens of thousands to stage a mass protest against tourism in April, and there are more scheduled for summer.
Despite Tenerife warning “invading” Brits to “go home”, defiant tourists continue to book holidays, with On The Beach seeing Tenerife trip sales shoot up by a third following the protests, reports The Sun.
