Brits ‘days away’ from Brutal 29C heatwave that can smother complete nation

Another scorching heatwave will hit Britain in a matter of days, as summer’s changeable weather continues.

Last Friday saw the mercury soar to a scorching 31.9C in the City of Westminster, marking the hottest day of the year to date. Parts of Dorset were treated to over 14 hours of glorious sunshine.

However, the weekend brought a change in weather, with rain lashing parts of the Midlands and Wales. More wet weather is on the cards with an Iberian thunderstorm likely to dump almost a month’s worth of rain on Britain in just a few hours. In a familiar pattern to Brits this summer, a heatwave will then follow.

Tomorrow, though, promises brighter skies. The south east can expect temperatures peaking around 25C, while northern regions will still enjoy a comfortable 20C, according to Netweather’s forecast.

Temperatures are expected to reach close to 30C from the start of the new month

WX Charts predicts highs of a sweltering 29C from the middle of next week, reports the Mirror.

A major heatwave is on the cards between Thursday, August 1 and Saturday, August 3. As explained by Netweather TV: “Relative to the 1991-2020 long-term normal, temperatures look set to be above normal for most of the country, probably by around 2C in parts of eastern England, but close to normal in north-west Scotland and near some west-facing coasts.”

“It looks set to be drier than normal in most parts of the UK, although north-west Scotland may have close to or rather above average rainfall due to some persistent rain towards the end of the week in particular. Sunshine totals will probably be close to or rather below normal in Northern Ireland and western Scotland, but above normal in most other parts of the UK, particularly in most parts of England.”

Before the heatwave however, there’s more wet weather on the cards

The Beeb’s forecasters have given Brits a glimmer of hope, predicting a bit of a scorcher with the mercury set to rise after August 5. They’ve said: “During the third week of August much of the UK could remain warmer and drier except in Scotland where it could be slightly cooler at times during wetter windier periods.”

They’re also hinting at a dry spell for late July and early August, with the temps likely to be on the up. The forecast added: “The long-term and seasonal weather forecast models continue to show a slightly drier trend in late July and the first half of August, with temperatures more likely to be at least slightly higher than normal.

“Recently there has been more confidence in the general weather patterns they are showing but with lower confidence in terms of temperatures. The next outlook may show whether the predicted settled and slightly warmer trend could continue later in August.”
