Nuts pulled over fears they’re contaminated with CYANIDE

A popular brand of nuts has been pulled from shelves over fears it could be contaminated with cyanide.

In a shock health warning, the Food Standards Agency said Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd is recalling 420g jars of Buram Cerezli Nuts in Syrup over fears it may contain the deadly poison.

The company, which is based in Enfield and supplies food and drinks to stores across the UK, warned shoppers who have bought the nuts not to eat them.

In an update published on Wednesday, the company said: ‘Because of the risk of hydrogen cyanide release from the apricot kernels, it has been extended to include all best before dates.’

There’s no suggestion that the nuts, which are sold in shops across the UK at £6.74 for a 420g jar, may contain anything more than the very faintest trace of cyanide but the firm and the FSA are taking no chances.

Customers were advised to return it to the store they bought it from for a full refund or to Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd.

The contaminated batches are: Batch number SN 0423 / 051, Best before dates of 30/04/2025 or 30/06/2025, EAN – 4260157574953.

An FSA spokesman said: ‘Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd recalls Buram Nuts in Syrup because it may contain foreign bodies.

‘The possible presence of an unknown foreign body makes this product unsafe to eat. If you have bought the above product do not eat it.

‘Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund or to Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd for a full refund.’
