EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles snored while at college

Royal chronicler Ingrid Seward tells a London literary lunch of King Charles’s schoolboy snoring and how fellow pupils recorded him sending up the Zs.

Ingrid, whose late husband Ross was a fellow pupil at Gordonstoun, reveals: ‘Charles’s bed was by an open window, so the boys above dangled over the window a recording device and recorded him snoring away.

Charles had a terrible problem with his snoring – and I think he still does.’ Does Camilla wear ear plugs, or has she sewn a tennis ball into the back of his regal nightshirt?

A royal wedding guest

Prince Andrew looks set to be the Cinderella figure at the English leg of the lavish wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant at Stoke Park, six miles from his Windsor home.

He once hoped the rich-as-Croesus Ambanis would back his Pitch@Palace business scheme.

As a golfer at Stoke Park, he was keen for a role in the course’s redevelopment after they bought it in 2021.

Perhaps they’ll have a slice of wedding cake couriered over to him.

Dame Joan’s never wigless

Clearing his throat for his Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Old Fart Gassing, famed advertising guru Jeffrey Stark, 81, fondly recalls working with Joan Collins, pictured, who never allowed anyone to see her wigless.

‘Stars usually arrived early for hours of hair and make-up,’ he recalls.

‘Joan always arrived immaculate with her wig in place. When she turned her head to address you, her hair followed almost immediately afterwards.’

Cleese also snored loudly after her travel update.

In mitigation, Traffic Sally, the search continues for Cleese’s lost funny bone. He hasn’t made anyone laugh since 1979.

The Four Tops dodged Lockerbie tragedy

Abdul Duke Fakir, the last of The Four Tops, who has died at 88, almost departed prematurely with the rest of the band in 1988 when the recording of Top of the Pops in London over-ran, forcing them to miss their plane to the US.

It was Pan Am Flight 103, which was brought down by a terrorist bomb over Lockerbie.
