Parents are reunited with new child after she was kidnapped
This is the heartwarming moment a couple was reunited with their newborn – one day after she was kidnapped by a doctor from a hospital in Brazil.
Paramedics could be seen wheeling an incubator carrying little Isabella Ferreira into a room Wednesday afternoon at Modesto de Carvalho Municipal Hospital, where her mother and father were waiting.
A nurse appears in the tear-jerking video, removing the day-old baby girl from the apparatus and handing her to mother Natália Rodrigues as her husband Edson Ferreira sat next to them.
‘It was a constant prayer, all the time without losing faith, seeking God, asking Him to bring her back,’ Rodrigues told Brazilian newspaper O Tempo. ‘We were sure that she would be found, God is good and we would like to thank each and every one of you who made this impact in the media. This contributed to her being found.’
Edison Ferreira said: ‘My princess is fine and so is her mother.’
On Wednesday afternoon, Natália Rodrigues was reunited with her day-old daughter, Isabella Ferreira, who was kidnapped by a doctor just three hours after she was born Tuesday night
Dr. Claudia Alves, a registered neurologist and university professor, was arrested Wednesday morning for the alleged abduction of Isabella Ferreira, three hours after she was born the previous day. Alves’ lawyer said the 42-year-old is bipolar and had a ‘psychotic crisis’ when she carried out the kidnapping
The family’s ordeal began Tuesday night – three hours after Rodrigues delivered the baby via caesarean section.
The mother and her daughter were resting in their room at Uberlândia Federal University Hospital Clinic in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais when the alleged suspect, Dr. Claudia Alves, 42, approached them shortly after 11 pm.
Alves, a registered neurologist, identified herself to a pediatrician and touched Rodrigues’ breast and told her that she was going to take little Isabella to be fed because she still couldn’t breastfeed her.
Alves covered Isabella in a blanket and carried her out of the room before she placed her inside a backpack and walked out the hospital before fleeing in her car.
Alves was stopped by the hospital receptionist, who detected her suspicious behavior when the doctor said her name was Amanda and claimed that she was there to cover the shift of a physician who was absent.
The receptionist alerted a security guard, who encountered Alves as she was walking out of a bathroom.
When asked if she needed help, Alves told the guard that she was heading for the exit because she had been informed that the department was fully staffed.
The guard accompanied Alves to the exit, but didn’t check her backpack because hospital guidelines prohibited him from searching people.
Natalia Rodrigues and her husband Edson Ferreira share a special moment with their one-day-old daughter Isabella Ferreira, who was returned to them Wednesday, less than 24 hours after she was born and kidnapped by a doctor, who claimed she was going to feed her milk after claiming Rodrigues couldn’t breastfeed
Police said the Isabella Ferreira is in good health and ‘doing fine’ after she was located Wednesday morning at the home of Dr. Claudia Alves, who allegedly kidnapped her
Édson Ferreira – the father of the child – said Dr. Claudia Alves told his wife that she was a ‘pediatrician and that she was going to take the baby to feed her’
Authorities launched an urgent search for Alves and Isabella and were able to locate their whereabouts thanks to a toll booth camera that snapped Soares’ picture after her payment failed.
Police were able to track the fugitive doctor to her home in Itumbiara, a city in the central state of Goiás, and found Isabella with the maid.
The agents set up a perimeter around the residence and captured Alves as she was returning moments later.
An Itumbiara Civil Police report indicated that Alves, who is also a professor at two universities, already had planned to steal a baby from a medical facility and that she preferred the child was a girl.
Dr. Claudia Alves is expected to appear before a judge in court on Thursday
Brazilian authorities believe that Dr. Claudia Alves had planned to kidnap a baby from a hospital after they discovered diapers, a stroller and other baby accessories from the trunk of her car
Dr. Claudia Alves was arrested Wednesday for the kidnapping of a newborn baby at a hospital in Uberlândia, Brazil. Alves is also a professor at two universities
Cops searched the trunk of her vehicle and found diapers, newborn clothing, a bathtub and other accessories. Alves claimed the items were gifts for her maid, who was pregnant.
Alves, who is facing an aggravated kidnapping charge, is allegedly bipolar, her lawyer Vladimir Rezende said in a statement.
‘At the time of the events, she was in a psychotic crisis and was unable to discern the inappropriate and/or illicit nature of her actions,’ Rezende said.
Alves is scheduled to appear in court before a judge, who will determine if she will be placed in pre-trial detention or released.
She could face up to five years in prison if she is convicted.
