Meet the companions of Team USA’s stars… and the Olympic energy couple

With the 2024 Summer Olympics in full swing, participating nations will again send their best athletes onto the world stage – some of which have significant others providing moral support.

As competitors who traveled across oceans and jumped around time zones settle down in Paris for the next month, all eyes will be set on various stars in their respective fields.

The United States is no stranger to Olympic success. With 1,065 golds, 830 silvers, and 750 bronzes, the Americans lead all nations in all three categories.

With the games being housed at the City of Love this year, the stars hope to shine under the brightest lights as their partners watch on from the side.

Here, DailyMail.com looks at some of Team USA‘s finest, their significant others, and their stories.

LeBron and Savannah James

The mutual friend who introduced 16-year-old Savannah to 17-year-old St. Vincent-St. Mary High School star LeBron all those years ago deserves plenty of flowers.

From high school sweethearts, they became quite a power couple given LeBron’s influence success on the court and influence off the hardwood and Savannah’s portfolio as a businesswoman and philanthropist.

On top of his four NBA titles, four regular season MVPs, and four Finals MVPs, the Ohio native will now look to add a fourth Olympic gold medal to his case with a stacked USA team in France.

LeBron and Savannah’s partnership led to the birth of their three children; Bronny, Bryce, and Zuri. The pair had their sons before getting married in 2013 and welcomed their youngest daughter the following year.

After the Olympics, LeBron will enter another monumental season as he and Bronny are set to be teammates in the NBA after their firstborn was drafted by the Lakers.

Steph and Ayesha Curry

Besides the James household, the Curry clan is another popular NBA family.

While the Golden State Warriors poster boy is known for taking and making the craziest of shots, Ayesha shot hers first when they met in a church group as teenagers.

In the biography The Miraculous Rise of Steph Curry, Steph’s sister Sydell mentioned how her soon-to-be sister-in-law would talk to her brother after church. “That’s how she would flirt with him in a way,” she said. “He clearly liked it. It left an impression.”

Years, later Curry would shoot one of his most important shots when he finally asked Ayesha out on a date while in Los Angeles for the ESPYs. The rest, as they say, is history.

Three kids, four NBA titles, two MVPs, and two New York Times Bestselling Author awards later, Steph and Ayesha continue to shine as individuals and as a pair. The restauranteur will cheer on ‘Chef Curry’ as he searches for his first Olympic gold.

Sabrina Ionescu and Hroniss Grasu

New York Liberty sharp shooter Sabrina Ionescu recently broke the barrier by challenging Curry in the first NBA vs WNBA three-point contest in February.

After helping her team to a WNBA Finals appearance last year, Ionescu did not head into this season without a ring as she tied the knot with Hroniss Grasu in March.

Besides their shared Romanian roots, Ionescu and the former Las Vegas Raiders center both attended the University of Oregon, where they met as student-athletes. The pair started dating in 2021 and got engaged in 2023 before exchanging vows in Laguna Beach, California

Ionescu is representing the United States at the Olympic stage for the first time this year alongside Liberty teammate and league MVP Breanna Stewart and the WNBA’s finest talents.

Brittney and Cherelle Griner

Although WNBA star Brittney Griner recently claimed that no championship could top the feeling of becoming a mother, it is not stopping her from competing for her third gold medal in the Olympics.

After getting locked up in Russia for 293 days over a CBD oil cartridge, Griner was able to return stateside thanks to her wife Cherelle’s unwavering efforts.

The pair met as undergraduates at Baylor University and reconnected after the Phoenix Mercury star’s split from her first wife Glory Johnson. Since then, Cherelle has been a constant presence on the sidelines at Brittney’s games. They got engaged in 2018 and tied the knot just a year later.

Following Brittney’s detention in 2022, the center admitted the experience was eye-opening and led to them deciding to have a child upon her return to the States.

Besides their exciting milestone of parenthood, Griner could also secure the title of three-time Olympic gold medalist before welcoming their son, Bash Raymond.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

While Jonathan Owens left a sour taste in fans’ mouths with comments about ‘being the catch’ in their pairing and admitting to not knowing who his wife was before meeting her, Simon Biles quickly brushed off the negativity.

Biles and the Chicago Bears safety give dating app hopefuls faith as they continue to flourish in their respective careers and as a couple.

The pair met on Raya during the pandemic, with the decorated gymnast admitting she said hi to Owens first. Two years after becoming Instagram official in 2020, Owens got down on one knee and proposed to Biles.

An intimate courthouse ceremony in Houston occurred in April 2023 before a larger wedding in Cabo the month after.

Although Owens admitted he did not watch gymnastics before Biles ‘slid in his DMs,’ he will surely be on the lookout as the four-time gold medalist spearheads the Americans in Paris.

Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield

With a romance transcending rival nations, Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield are expected to bring the heat on the track this summer.

Lyles, a decorated sprinter, returns to the Olympic stage in Paris after notching a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash in Tokyo. Like him, his girlfriend Bromfield also secured a podium finish in Japan, helping Jamaica secure a bronze in the 4×400 relay.

With their relationship now out in the open, there is no doubt that both runners will cheer for each other in France. However, their pairing has experienced its fair share of backlash, given the competitive nature between Jamaica and the United States in athletics.

Nevertheless, they seem unfazed by the noise from their countrymen, remaining focused on competing for their respective nations while supporting each other.

Lyles and Bromfield have been in each other’s circles for over six years but started dating over a year ago. Their romance was first rumored when Bromfield was spotted cheering for Lyles at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Taylor Fritz and Morgan Riddle

Another couple that dating app Raya could use for their marketing is tennis star Taylor Fritz and social media influencer Morgan Riddle.

Like the aforementioned Biles and Owens, the pair met on the platform in 2020 while the world was still dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As his stardom continues to grow on and off the tennis court, Fritz will embark on another quest in the Olympics. The Masters 1000 winner will take on the games for the first time in his career and compete in the mixed doubles with fellow American tennis star Coco Gauff.

Known for frequently turning her boyfriend’s matches into runway photo ops, Riddle may have plenty of content to feed her 344k Instagram followers if she follows Fritz to Paris.

The New York Times dubbed Riddle ‘The Most Famous Woman in Men’s Tennis’ in an August 2023 feature.

Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall

After tying the knot nearly two years ago, Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall will embark on perhaps one of the biggest adventures in their early marriage – competing on the world stage together.

Hunter is a double-amputee sprinter and three-time Paralympic medalist. Meanwhile, Tara is a world championship gold and silver medalist and one of the best American long jumpers.

With their respective success, the pair got off to incredible starts in this Olympic and Paralympic year.

Hunter set a new American record in the 100-meter T62 on his carbon-fiber blades, clocking a time of 11 seconds flat at the outdoor season opener in Walnut, California, in March.

Meanwhile, Tara took top honors at the star-studded New York City Grand Prix on June 9, leaping to an impressive 23ft 5in mark. She also holds the second-best jump in the world in 2024 at 23ft. 6 ¾ in.

The Woodhalls will head into the French capital this year seeking their first gold medals. Hunter holds a silver from the 2016 games in Rio and bronzes from Rio and Tokyo in 2020. On the other hand, Tara debuted in the Tokyo games but unfortunately did not make it to the podium.
