DJ Randall dies aged 54 as tributes pour in

DJ Randall has died aged 54, his representatives have confirmed.

The drum & bass DJ, known as the ‘godfather of breakbeat’ rose to fame in the 90s vs alongside British DJ partners Fabio and Grooverider.

No official cause of death has been confirmed yet.

DJ Randall, whose real name was Randall McNeil, was a familar voice on radio stations including Rave FM and Rinse FM.

He first experienced acid house at the Notting Hill carnival in 1987 and soon established his own unique sound.

Randall and Cool Hand Flex cofounded record label Mac2 Recordings in 1996 and he was also a regular at The Blue Note Club with musicians like Goldie and DJ Storm.

DJ Fresh wrote on X: ‘RIP Randall You were such a big influence to me and my friends. And I was lucky to get to work with and hang out with you. 

‘You got a generation of kids into Drum & Bass when it was still called Jungle and you inspired the people that inspired me. Rest in peace my friend, you will live on in our hearts and our music.’

Others wrote: ‘Absolutely gutted. What an absolute legend this man was. RIP DJ’.

‘A true master of the craft. In absolute shock writing this. Our heart aches with the whole scene and our deepest condolensces to his family and friends. He was the DJs DJ, but also one of the most genuine people in the game.’
