Rowing Eight finals sees the boys scoop Saturday’s first gold

Britain’s eight rowing teams have both scooped up medal’s today with the men bagging gold and the womens squad walking away with a toughly-fought bronze. 

The British rowing squad have even more medals to add to the roster this morning after Oliver Wynne-Griffith and Tom George secured silver in the men’s coxless pair final yesterday.

Sholto Carnegie, Rory Gibbs, Morgan Bolding, Jacob Dawson, Charlie Elwes, Tom Digby, James Rudkin, Tom Ford – with Harry Brightmore coxing – raced their way to victory this morning. 

The Brits put on a sensational performance confidently snatching gold place as the Dutch nabbed silver, and the USA walked away with a bronze. 

This morning has also proved to be fruitful for women’s eight rowing team won a bronze at securing a seventh medal in the sport for Team GB in Paris.

With Henry Fieldman coxing Roan McKellar, Holly Dunford, Emily Ford, Lauren Irwin, Eve Stewart, Hattie Taylor and Annie Campbell-Orde pulled their way to third place.

The race at the Vaires-sure Marne Nautical Stadium proved to be a tense race on the water this morning.

The British team were in fourth place for a large portion of the race however they managed to pull themselves back into contention for a medal placement in the final moments leading up to the finish line.. 

Favourites Romania made a dominant start and continued to maintained their strong lead.

Canada and the Brits kept in close of the pursuit throughout with the Romanians crossing the finish line only four seconds before Team GB.

The medal in the event joins GB’s silver in Rio in 2016 and was redemption for their last place finish in Tokyo three years ago.

But Team GB held off and scooped up another medal in a sport they remain successful in, while Romania won by more than four seconds with Canada in second.
