Kamala Harris to unveil VP decide as we speak after narrowing down to 2 candidates: Live
Kamala Harris will officially announce her choice of running mate on Tuesday morning, according to CBS News, after formally clinching her party’s nomination for the presidency at midnight on Monday.
Her pool of vice presidential contenders is understood to have narrowed to just Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, according to Reuters.
Harris is expected to announce her choice today ahead of the victor’s first rally appearance alongside her in Philadelphia, although the timing of the unveiling may change depending on when Harris makes her final decision or if there’s a leak to the press.
Shapiro, Walz and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly all interviewed at Harris’s residence in Washington DC on Sunday, with the former astronaut subsequently tweeting and then deleting a post shortly afterwards in which he declared, “Now my mission is serving Arizonans,” seemingly suggesting he is no longer in contention.
Republican candidate Donald Trump was interviewed by streamer Adin Ross on Monday, who presented him with a Rolex watch and giftwrapped Cybertruck, after losing his latest attempt to have the US Supreme Court block his sentencing in the hush money case against him.
Virginia man charged with threatening to burn Kamala Harris alive and murder Biden and FBI chief
Frank Lucio Carillo, 66, was arrested for threatening to kill Harris, who is the presumptive Democratic presidential party nominee in the 2024 election, according to a pair of court filings made on August 2.
His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
“Kamala Harris needs to be put on fire alive I will do it personally if no one else does it I want her to suffer a slow agonizing death,” Carillo allegedly said in a social media post flagged by the FBI. The post was made on the right-wing social media platform GETTR, according to investigators.
Democrats want Harris to pick battleground VP (and preferably a man)
A new CBS/YouGov poll from Sunday shows that most Democrats want a liberal candidate for vice president who comes from a battleground state.
Kamala Harris is on the brink of announcing her pick for running mate. She has already said that her veep pick will appear alongside her at a rally on Tuesday.
The latest data shows that nearly four in 10 Democrats (38 per cent) think Harris should choose a man to be her VP, as opposed to a woman (22 per cent).
RFK Jr called Trump barely human’ and ‘probably a sociopath’ in recent texts, New Yorker reports
The dead bear cub story was in The New Yorker’s new profile of Kennedy published earlier today, which also quotes RFK Jr calling Donald Trump a “terrible human being”, “the worst president ever and barely human” and “probably a sociopath” in a recent text message exchange.
Which is interesting because, last we heard, he was angling for a job in a future Trump Cabinet!
Here’s Alex Woodward’s report on that.

No, JD Vance is not as bad of a running mate as Sarah Palin. He’s worse
Vance will be in Philadelphia on Tuesday, where Harris will make her first appearance alongside her running mate at a rally. Then, Vance will follow her to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, before he trails her to North Carolina.
The tour serves two purposes: Firstly, it allows for Vance to assume the common role of the running mate as the “attack dog” who can hurl javelins that the principal cannot do; secondly, it serves as Vance’s reintroduction to the public after a rocky rollout as Trump’s number-two.
JD Vance’s wife Usha defends his ‘childless cat ladies’ swipe: ‘It can be really hard to be a parent’
His wife insisted in the interview that his remarks — which faced renewed criticism after he joined the ticket as Trump’s vice presidential nominee — were simply about the challenges parents face and what role the government plays in the lives of parents.

Mega investors, crypto and tech bros: Why Vance and Harris’s San Francisco ties hold the key to the election
Last week, at a speech in Florida, Donald Trump warned that a Kamala Harris presidency would “forcibly impose crazy San Francisco liberal values on Americans nationwide.”
San Francisco, population 808,437, has long been a punching bag for conservatives nationwide — but Trump neglected to mention that his own running mate, JD Vance, also has deep ties there.
Perhaps more than any other time in US history, both sides of the ticket include people with fundamental ties to the Bay Area.
Nancy Pelosi reveals her guilt over husband Paul’s hammer attack: ‘They were after me’
Pelosi made the comments on Good Morning America on Monday while promoting her new book, The Art of Power.
The book starts with the attack on her husband.
She said she felt guilty because she knew the attack was motivated by her politics, and noted that her husband was not a very political person.
“What was sad about my husband’s situation is he’s not very political,” she said. “They were after me. And I feel guilty about his paying the price.”
