Darts’ Raymond van Barneveld leaves followers in stitches as he exhibits off ‘new hair’

Darts icon Raymond van Barneveld has left fans in stitches as he jetted back from Turkey.

The Dutchman, 57, had been soaking up the summer sun before heading back to the tour circuit as the competitions start to ramp up ahead of the Paddy Power PDC World Championship. And Barney had fans in tears as he donned a wig in the airport departures lounge.

“Back from my holiday in Turkey,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter. And one fan responded: “I think you may have mixed the Tom Cruise and young Mr Rydz pictures up for your hair style!”

The icon had already sought out extra help to thwart that common enemy of middle-aged men – hair loss. The 57-year-old turned to a hair transplant studio to fight the problem, and by his own admission, Van Barneveld has been left looking like a toy figure.

Posting on social media, with a Playmobil doll in hand, he said: “Always been a big fan of Playmobil with my ‘Playmobil Hair’. Thought I’d say it before someone else does!”

Darts is back down under over the weekend – but Barney is not on the card. Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, however, will be back in action as they clash with Joe Comito and Rob Modra in the first round respectively.
