El Chapo’s ‘quantity two’ breaks silence after ‘Narco thriller’ and epic manhunt
Cartel kingpin ‘El Mayo’ has finally broken his silence after his “surprise” arrest by US forces last month.
Following an epic manhunt lasting decades Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS) alongside the imprisoned Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was arrested on July 26.
The 76-year-old reportedly surrendered “calmly” to on-the-prowl FBI agents on a New Mexico airstrip, sparking rumours that he’d been cunningly lured across the border.

There’s lots of quality news coming out of the US.
The incident left experts “scratching their heads” and asking why such a major cartel player might have carelessly landed in that situation. Now in a two-page letter written by Zambada that his lawyer released on Saturday (August 10), the former drug cartel leader said he was ambushed and kidnapped.
According to the Star Tribune, El Mayo thought he was going to meet the governor of the CDS after being convinced by fellow drug lord and son of El Chapo, Joaquín Guzmán López.
However, on July 25, instead of attending the supposed meeting Zambada claimed he was led into a room where he was knocked unconscious, a hood placed over his head and led to a pickup truck in handcuffs.
He was reportedly forced to board a private plane that took him and Guzmán López to US soil where he was scooped up by the FBI.
Zambada could now be set to join El Chapo in jail, where the notorious CDS leader has rotted since 2019. El Chapo and Zambada co-founded the CDS in 1989, governing it to become the one of the most powerful drug-trafficking organisations in the world
Zambada and cohort Guzman Lopez stand accused of steering the cartels savage opioid factories and supply routes no charge more critical than their alleged part in the fentanyl crisis.
Attorney General Merrick Garland remarked: “Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, and the Justice Department will not rest until every single cartel leader, member, and associate responsible for poisoning our communities is held accountable.”
