Emily Ratajkowski is the newest star to say she is ‘decentring’
Emily Ratajkowski has become the latest in a long line of stars to say she is ‘decentring men’.
The model and actress, 33, joins a number of young people who claim they have ditch romance in favour of a man free life, describing themselves as going ‘boysober’.
On TikTok, thousands of women have avowed to go sober as part of ‘self-care’, with the ritual aiming to provide a year of individual healing outside of the dating world.
And the trend hasn’t just hit disillusioned Gen Z women as a boy-free life has become increasingly popular with even some of the most famed and desired female celebrities opting to ditch men.
Julia Fox recently revealed she has opted out of sex with men all together, saying she has been celibate for more than two years to avoid them.

According to online videos, the cleanse is partially motivated by women’s disillusionment with online dating apps such as Hinge, Tinder and Bumble, with one study revealing 90 per cent of Gen Z are dissatisfied by the apps.
Among other celebrities to have sworn off dating men, are Kate Hudson, Britney Spears, and Drew Barrymore.
According to sex therapist at Blueheart, Dr Katherine Hertlein, individuals may go celibate for a variety of reasons.
She told FEMAIL: ‘The choice to be celibate is often closely tied to religious beliefs and practices, but this is not always the case. There is evidence that younger people are having sex with fewer partners.
‘In 2021, a UCLA survey showed 38 per cent of respondents aged 18-30 reported no sexual partners in the past year, up from 22 per cent in 2011.
‘Celibacy can be a healthy choice, depending on your personal reasons and circumstances. It’s important to consider your own needs, values, and well-being.
‘Some find that celibacy helps them focus on personal growth, career goals, or emotional healing,’ she concluded.
Here, FEMAIL takes a look at some of the most famous girls who’ve gone boy sober.

The model and author is the latest in a string of celebrities making the commitment to ‘decentering’ men and put romance on the back burner.
In a recent Vogue interview with the writer, Sarah Manguso, Emily confessed that she is choosing to ‘decentralise’ men, insisting that she no longer found the idea of a whirlwind romance interesting.
During the interview, the two discussed the themes of Sarah’s new book, cheating and divorce, with both reflecting on their experiences of love broken by unfaithfulness.
‘Decentralising men has been a huge part of my life,’ Emily said during the interview.
‘I still love men in many ways, but the Disney fairy tale I had once embraced of being chosen and building a life while being desirable to one man and keeping a man and all that, I just don’t find that interesting anymore.’
Among the reasons for this decision, Emily described the unfair balance of emotional labour she has been juggling in her former relationship.
Emily – who is the author of her own feminist biography, My Body – was previously married to the film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard with who she shares a son, Sylvester ‘Sly’ Apollo.
Following the birth of their son, Emily said that she found herself lumbered with ‘being the breadwinner while simultaneously organising our social schedule and being the primary caretaker of our child’.
She said that since marrying and having children, her life had become: ‘suddenly extremely small and less important, less valuable.’
The couple divorced in 2022 after it was reported that Sebastian cheated on his wife of two years, ‘multiple times’.
Since the two parted ways, Emily famously pledged her commitment to the end of the romance by having her engagement remade into a set of ‘divorce rings’.
‘I don’t think a woman should be stripped of her diamonds just because she’s losing a man,’ the model told Vogue after the ring repurposing.
Despite her promise to decentre men, the mother-of-one has been embroiled in a number of rumoured romances, including the latest suggestion that she is dating country rapper Shaboozey,
Since her divorce, Emily has been romantically linked to Brad Pitt, Harry Styles, Pete Davidson, Eric Andre and Jack Greer.

In May, Julia Fox revealed that she had been successfully avoiding men and sex for two and a half years, as part of a response to Bumble’s controversial dating app billboards that read, ‘You know full well a vow of celibacy is not the answer’.
Hitting back at the now high scrutinised ad campaign, Julia said: ‘2.5 years of celibacy and never been better tbh.’
Shortly after commenting on the Bumble campaign, the Uncut Gems actress said she had no plans of ending her celibacy. Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she insisted that never ends with anything ‘good’ comes from having sex.
The continuation of her celibacy came after the mother-of-one shone further light on the reasons for her abstinence.
She said: ‘I think with the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and our rights being stripped away from us, this is a way that I can take back the control. And it just sucks that it has to be in that way, but I just don’t feel comfortable until things change.’
Julia – who previously dated the controversial rapper Kayne West – explained that she never even missed sex.
She said: ‘I think it’s just like getting over anything, smoking, drugs, whatever it may be. Eventually, you just forget, and all that energy you were putting toward sex, you can put toward other things.’
Not to mention, Julia has not only availed committed to avoiding sex, but promised to deter from attracting any kind of attention from men.
Speaking to Emma Barnett on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, the actress gave details on her recent style evolution, which she says has been a conscious choice to dress away from the ‘male gaze’.
She told the programme: ‘Men hate my outfits. They’re so mad that I’m not like how I was on Uncut Gems. I hear that all the time, but I don’t care…because the girls love it. The girls and the gays love it!’
Julia said that this was a conscious choice after a realisation that she had spent her life dressing to the pleasure of men, but not wanted to ‘dress for the girls’.
‘Whether I was realising it or not, I think my appearance is very much to please the male gaze in way. And then something happened, I don’t know if it was motherhood or being thrust into the public eye. And I was like, I don’t want to uphold this anymore,’ she said.
Last month, Julia even appeared to admit that she was a lesbian after she stitched a TikTok video from a user, @emgwaciedawgie who says, ‘I love when I see a lesbian with their boyfriend. It’s like ‘Aww, you hate that man. You literally hate him.”
In her response, Julia said: ‘Hey, that was me. I was that lesbian. So sorry, boys. Won’t happen again.’
In 2022 she revealed she was considering exploring her ‘gay bone’ and wanted to start dating women during an appearance on Ziwe.
‘Like, maybe my ex-boyfriends weren’t wrong when they were calling me a lesbian and complaining that I never wanted to have sex with them,’ the Italian-born model stated.
The star then noted: ‘[You] can find love in all places and all races. All [men are] equally horrible to be honest — all men. It’s just a man thing.’
Julia has been married once, to private pilot Peter Artemiev from 2018 until 2020. They share a son named Valentino, three, who was born in January 2021 after their divorce.

In a recent episode of the popular podcast, Call Her Daddy, Kate Hudson shared with host Alex Cooper that during her 30s, she had taken a break from dating men for an entire year.
Far ahead of the ‘boysober’ trend of 2024, the now 45-year-old confessed she had been advised by her therapist to ‘get off the sauce’.
‘I was at that place where I was like, ‘I don’t want to keep repeating any patterns anymore.
‘I have a great therapist who was like, ‘I can help you, but you have to do it.’ He’s like, ‘Get off the sauce’.’
During the episode, which aired in March earlier this year, Kate admitted that her romantic sobriety had been challenging, particularly since she had always loved flirting.
At the beginning of the therapist enforced dry spell, she had found the process ‘very uncomfortable’ and ‘not fun’, but that she had begun to sense clarity six months in.
The Bride Wars star said the romantic restraint had been so profound that it had even changed her taste in men.
After completing the experiment for a year, she was given rein from her therapist to flirt again, though she opted to extend the boy sobriety by remaining single for a further two and a half years.
Kate, who is currently in a relationship with the musician, Danny Fujikawa, 38, has credited her solitary period to allowing for such a health relationship.
The two had been friends for 15 years before their relationship turned romantic, having first met when Kate was 23 and pregnant with her first child and Danny was a junior in high school, according to People.
The two first got together in 2017 which would have been shortly after Kate’s dating hiatus.
Describing her partner, Kate said: ‘He’s such a lovely person. And I would have never, I think, allowed that in if I didn’t take those three years of just being so happy in my life alone.’
Now engaged, the two share a five-year-old daughter, Rani.
The actress was previously married to Chris Robinson who was the lead singer of the Black Crowes and whom she shares her son, Ryder, with. The two divorced in 2007, seven years after tying the knot.
Britney Spears
Britney has been rumored to have a less glamorous romance with an on and off relationship with the reported felon, Paul Richard Soliz
In early July, Britney hinted that she had split from Paul in a very candid post about being single. The post came at an interesting time as she had been dating Paul for the past few months
The Circus hitmaker has had a number of high profile relationships since her fast track to fame when she was just a teenager having famously dated Justin Timberlake and Sam Asghari.
More recently, Britney has been rumored to have a less glamorous romance with an on and off relationship with the reported felon, Paul Richard Soliz.
However, just last month, the 42-year-old declared in an Instagram post that was single and would no longer be dating men.
The former pop wrote wrote that she ‘will never be with another man as long as I live,’ in a dramatic post.
However, since the dramatic confession, Britney has edited the post, deleting her post to spurn to all men.
The brief period of dating sobriety followed Britney’s break-up with felon boyfriend Paul Richard Soliz amid rumours that he was cheating on her.
In May, DailyMail.com revealed Paul is the father of at least nine children – and is being chased for child support by their mother as well as the Los Angeles Department for Child Support Services (DCSS).
Nicole Mancilla, told DailyMail.com that Paul had an affair with Britney, has not paid bills for his five kids with her or his other children with other women, but still tries to visit her at her mother’s home in Sylmar, California.
‘Just let them know that my husband fell in Britney Spears’ p****. He was married, and now he denies his children,’ Mancilla said. ‘He neglects his children for her.’
DailyMail.com was unable to locate court records confirming Soliz and Mancilla were married.

Actress, Jane Fonda tells Drew Barrymore that she is no longer interesting in dating, to which Drew admits she’d been off men for the ‘last five years’
In 2020, during an episode of her show The Drew Barrymore show, the American actress revealed that she too had taken a long break from men.
During the episode, Drew spoke to the Grace and Frankie star, Jane Fonda, 86, over a recent confession of hers that she was thinking of ditching blokes,
She said: ‘Recently you said that you were swearing off men.
‘Can I please talk to you about this? ‘Cause I think I’m there and have been there for the last five years. What’s happening?’
Drew then explained: ‘I think I’m there and have been there for the last five years’.
Responding to the question, Jane was quick to encourage Drew, who was 45 at the time, not to take herself off the market just yet.
Jane said: ‘You’re so young! You’re too young to swear off anything. You have to stay open to anything, Drew. I’m too old, so it’s very easy to swear off getting undressed, even in candlelight.’
Drew responded by admitting that she’d been casually avoiding dating for the previous five years.
She insisted she was not not entirely closed off.
‘But I have been exactly in that mentality for the last five years, thinking I just don’t have the bandwidth, I don’t know if I’m willing to open [up],’ she said. ‘I just can’t fit it in.’
The 49-year-old actress and producer previously married fellow actor, Will Kopelman, in 2012 but the two divorced in 2016.
The pair co-parent their daughters Olive, 11, and Frankie, 10.
