Antiques store proprietor defends Jimmy Savile detergent on sale for £100 in retailer
An antiques dealer came under fire after she sold washing powder with Jimmy Savile ’s face on, but she stands by her decision.
Shop owner, Sadie Myers, received the antique boxes of washing powder as part of a job lot. She decided to sell it, despite the packaging featuring the face of notorious paedophile, Jimmy Savile.
The powder was named ‘Jimmy Dazle,’ and it was listed for a whopping £100 for customers to purchase. However, local residents who lived near her shop criticised her controversial decision.

Some customers denounced her decision as “sick” and suggested that she should take it out of the shop and cease selling it due to Jimmy’s horrific actions. However, Sadie stuck by her decision and revealed the reason why she kept the listing up.
“You can’t delete history,” she claimed. The owner of Den of Antiquity in Whitby, North Yorkshire, said he was a part of television despite his acts.
“I’m not a fan club, I’m not selling Jimmy Savile badges or T-shirts. But in this trade, we handle so many taboo and macabre things that are not of today’s standards.
“He was a horrible character. But if you do keep hiding this stuff away, you are paving the way for the deniers.
“It pleases me to see people uncomfortable by it – why? It means humanity is working. You can’t delete history,” she finished.
The detergent was made 50 years ago in celebration of Savile’s visit to a cleaning product manufacturer. An inscription on the back of the unopened package says that the company had ‘specially formulated’ the product to mark the occasion.
Locals weren’t the only ones disgusted by the listing, with several social media users sharing their opinion on the product. “Sick!!!” penned one upset browser.
“Newsflash someone’s selling a washing powder made by a sexual predator f**kin worlds gone mad,” added another. “Some people will sell/do owt for a few quid!!!! Disgraceful Burn it,” wrote a third passionate person.
This did not deter Sadie, however, who revealed that she intends to keep the product on sale despite several calls to pull it from her shop window.
“It’s just one of those strange, oddity macabre items. We certainly haven’t gone out looking for it. It came in with a bunch of other stuff, by the time I broke down the lot, I’ve probably paid £80 for it, I’ve put it out for £100.
“You get collectors of items that are unopened and intact in original packaging. It’s a bit of an oddity.”
