Micah Richards leaves Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker miffed with MOTD determination
Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker were stunned after Micah Richards dropped the bombshell that he is missing the first Match of the Day show of the season.
The new Premier League season gets underway on Friday as Manchester United host Fulham, with 12 more sides in action on Saturday. England football legends Shearer and Lineker will return to provide their expert analysis, though the two BBC stalwarts will be without their usual third colleague Richards.
Richards has instead decided to appear on Sky Sports Super Sunday the following day, leaving the BBC requiring a replacement for Saturday night’s highly-anticipated show. The news came as a shock to both Shearer and Lineker as the trio gave their predictions for the season on The Rest is Football podcast.

And Lineker and Shearer didn’t hold back from ribbing the former Manchester City ace for his no-show. Lineker said: “We will be back on Monday reflecting on all the action of the opening weekend. It’s up and running, the Premier League starts again. But before that, of course, I will be on Match of the Day. You’re on Alan aren’t you?” To which Shearer responded: “I am.”
Lineker went on to add: “And Micah’s not. Because you’re doing Super Sunday,” with Shearer interjecting: “What happened?! I thought you’re on with us!”

Richards admitted: “Super Sunday for Sky. I got the dates and it was a clash of dates,” leading Shearer to exclaim: “How does that clash with Saturday?!”
The former defender explained: “I can’t work Saturday and Sunday I’ll be knackered,” which led Lineker to jest: “Two days work in a week…”
Shearer couldn’t hide his bewilderment, fuming: “What am I listening to here? Let’s just revisit ‘I can’t do Saturday and Sunday’. Did you just say that? I was told you were on with us!” But Richards stood his ground: “That’s exactly what I said. Sitting in the room with you two idiots for 12 hours.”
Newcastle legend Shearer snapped back: “Give your f***ing head a wobble, will you?” while Lineker joked: “No wonder his career petered out,” as the trio erupted with laughter.
