Inside Shaun of the Dead impressed pub shed the place punters can cover from zombies
A bloke who recreated a famous on-screen pub has won Britain’s Pub Shed of the Year.
Kev Marchant, 55 dropped a whopping £10,000 and six weeks of his time to recreated the iconic Winchester which featured in the movie Shaun of the Dead. Kev, who works as a tiler is Eastleigh, Hampshire, said he wanted to recreate an old-school boozer in his back garden.
The Winchester-recreation spared nothing with very close detailing to the original model. It features an old-fashioned ornate bar, poker table, dart board, beer bumps, vintage décor and a stained glass ceiling.

While it is named after Edgar Wright’s creation, the name also nods towards the city where Kev and his wife, 54, first met and grew up. “Grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over,” is exactly the quote Kev hoped to live by.
Kev’s project spanned over a few years, with the trade starting in 2020 by utilising the industry contacts he had accumulated. He wanted to build an old Working Men’s Club atmosphere which he created through old materials.
The attention to detail is part of the reason Kev was awarded his prize, with the on-theme carpet and tiling. He wanted to replicate the boozers his parents took him too when he was younger.
“I remember my dad taking me into the local working men’s club. I have fond memories of that such as the cigar smoke and pints being poured.
“It’s a kind of old school-style pub. Being 55 things were a bit more old school back then. I think those kind of pubs have a lot more character so I thought why not stick one in the back garden.
“It’s the best thing we ever did – plus it’s a cheap taxi ride home.”
Despite the whopping £10,000 price tag, Kev managed to complete his project on the cheap. He used Gumtree where he found a £16,000 bar for just £1,500.
Kev even flogged his old camper van which helped fund the dream of his pub and also give him the garage space for it. It currently measures measures 6m (19ft) x 3m (9ft) long.
It has Stella, Fosters, Guinness and Carlsberg on tap and also stocks a range of spirits and bottled drinks with stools lining the bar and historic brewery badges hanging on the walls.
Kev added: “One of my good friends who I grew up with had a pub shed in his back garden. I often joked I had to get one and go bigger and better. It was always on my mind.”
