Harry tries to handle crowd in Spanish – and followers examine him to a different royal

Prince Harry wowed crowds in Colombia yesterday (Sunday, August 18) as he addressed them in Spanish – and now Royal Family fans are all saying the same thing.

The Duke of Sussex, alongside wife Meghan Markle and Colombia’s vice president Francia Marquez, appeared on stage at Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival in Cali. It marked the fourth day of the Sussex’s visit to Colombia.

Displaying some language skills, Harry greeted the massive audience with “buenas noches” (“good evening”) and thanked Marquez in Spanish, before cheekily asking for Meghan to help him translate – a request she gladly accepted.

Social media users were quick to comment on the footage, with many drawing parallels to Princess Diana. One TikTok user said “it is nice to think that it is a representation of” Diana, while another said: “So beautiful Harry, it’s like having Princess Diana.” A third wrote: “Princess Diana would be very proud.”

Meghan’s proficiency in Spanish, honed during her time living in Buenos Aires and Madrid, won over Colombian fans as well. One commented on TikTok: “Seeing her speaking in Spanish makes me feel closer to her and I like her.” And another said: “Meghan scored big points speaking Spanish.”

The royal couple arrived in Colombia last Thursday (August 15) following an invitation from Vice President Marquez. Marquez invited the pair after watching their documentary series on Netflix.

Despite no longer being working members of the Royal Family, the couple’s visit had all the hallmarks of an official royal tour. This marks their second trip this year, following a three-day stint in Nigeria back in May.
