A horror yacht incident off the coast of Italy has left a businessman, dubbed the ‘British Bill Gates’, missing just days after a former colleague was killed in a car accident.
On August 17, 52-year-old Stephen Chamberlain was out for a jog in Cambridgeshire when he was hit by a blue Vauxhall Corsa.
At 4am on Monday, August 19, roughly 1,700 miles away on the north coast of the Italian island of Sicily, a freak weather incident capsized the British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-metre super yacht.

Six people are still missing following the capsizing out of 22 people onboard. Among those yet to be located is Mike Lynch, a 59-year-old tech tycoon.
Lynch and Chamberlin were known to each other.
In June, both men were found not guilty of allegedly falsely inflating the revenue of their company, Autonomy, which they sold to HP in 2011 for $11billion.
A year later, tech giant HP had written down the value of Autonomy by $8.8billion, subsequently accusing Lynch, and his vice president of finance, Chamberlin, of providing misleading information about the finances of the company.
The pair, along with other leading figures from Autonomy, were charged with fraud in 2018 by American federal prosecutors.
Lynch denied the accusations and said he delegated many tasks, but in 2023 was extradited to San Francisco where he was made to stay in a house under 24-hour surveillance with private security paid for at his expense.
Just over two months later, one of these men would be dead and the other missing at sea.
Following his acquittal, Lynch spoke from his 2,500-acre farm near Wickham Market in Suffolk about his relief.
He told a local newspaper: “You never quite know with the American system because they have always got some twist.”
Speaking of his delight at being back home, he said: “It was one of those lovely English grey days. I finally made it home and made it up into Suffolk and that was finally the end of the journey, so that was brilliant.”
Following the death of 52-year-old co-defendant, Chamberlin, a statement was released by the Camabridshire Constabulary on behalf of his grieving family. The same police force told the Daily Star that his death was not being treated as a criminal investigation.
They said: “Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.
“He made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but forever in the hearts of his loved ones.”
