Ronaldo tipped for Man Utd return attributable to Saudi star’s ‘unfinished enterprise’
A former Manchester United star has suggested Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese football maestro, whose United legacy remains intact due to his dazzling first stint with United, hit a rough patch during his second tenure. It culminated in an acrimonious departure after Ronaldo’s bombshell revelations on the Piers Morgan show.
Despite currently showcasing his talents in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr and nudging closer to his 40th birthday, CR7 remains tight-lipped about hanging up his boots or shedding his captain’s armband before the 2026 World Cup kicks off across the pond. But that hasn’t stopped ex-forward Louis Saha sharing his views on the Real Madrid legend’s future.

Ronaldo’s impromptu display of ‘sideline management’ when Portugal clinched Euro 2016 had tongues wagging, but he’s kept schtum about any desires to command from the dugout. Yet Saha is convinced that Ronaldo’s unwavering commitment and fervour could see him take the reins at the Theatre of Dreams in the future.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day,” Saha confided to TVSporten. “That could be as a coach or even a manager,” reports the Mirror.

Ronaldo’s comeback highlight reel won’t feature his latest spell at the club, marked by a managerial merry-go-round and sharp critiques aimed at the powerhouse’s upper echelons, leading to his cut ties in November 2022. His candid chat with Morgan is viewed as what ultimately cut short his second coming at United, criticising boss Erik ten Hag and the younger players – a move seen as the last straw.
Despite this, Ronaldo knocked in 27 goals in 54 appearances in that period, leaving a warm spot in the hearts of United supporters. The Portuguese star has had mixed fortunes with Al Nassr, despite scoring 35 goals in his debut season.
It’s believed he’s staying put this term, but speculation continues about what’s next for him. Ronaldo’s ex-United team-mate reckons CR7 could dive into management, on the condition he polishes up those people skills.
“Now he will know that he needs to find a new way to communicate when he becomes a coach,” Saha said. “Which maybe isn’t as harsh or direct as it was when he was at the club.
“He will work out how to be successful and use all his knowledge to do that; we’ve seen Roy Keane go into management and have success. Cristiano will understand what he needs to do as a manager. I see no reason why he wouldn’t be a success.”
