Ryan Giggs responds to Ten Hag agreeing Man Utd switch for ‘very robust’ star

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has heaped praise on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, dubbing him one of the Premier League’s top defenders after his move to West Ham.

Erik ten Hag’s backline at United has undergone a major overhaul this summer. The club forked out £58million for Leny Yoro, who picked up a foot injury that’ll keep him sidelined for three months, while seasoned pros Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were snapped up from Bayern Munich.

Mazraoui, who shinned during United’s opening night 1-0 win over Fulham, was brought in following the sale of right-back Wan-Bissaka, who was shipped off to the Hammers for a mere £15m a significant drop from the £50m United paid Crystal Palace for him in 2019.

Giggs wasted no time in lauding the 26-year-old Wan-Bissaka. He confessed that he’d steer clear of going head-to-head with him and would struggle to get past him on the flank.

“I would’ve stayed away from him, especially later on in my career,” Giggs spilled the beans on the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel while chatting about Wan-Bissaka’s exit, reports the Mirror.

“I would’ve tried to take him places he didn’t want to go because, one on one, I think he’s one of the best in the league. Over the 90, he’s very tough to play against.”

Wan-Bissaka made the leap to United five years ago after turning heads during his standout season at Palace, where he bagged their Player of the Year gong Despite showing off some serious defensive skills at United, Wan-Bissaka didn’t quite level up his attacking game.

He racked up nearly 200 appearances for the Red Devils, wowing fans with his slick tackles and cinnabdubg one-on-ones something even Ryan Giggs has bigged up. But when Ten Hag clocked eyes on Moroccan ace Mazraoui, it was curtains for Wan-Bissaka, who’s since legged it back to London.

He’s yet to strut his stuff for West Ham, though, keeping the bench warm as they took a hit from Aston Villa.

“It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham I’m excited and happy to be here,” Wan-Bissaka buzzed after sealing the deal with the Hammers. “It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming.”

“I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me. I’m happy to be here, grateful for the warm welcome, and excited to be playing for the Club. I will give it my all.”

“I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others’ backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad.”
