Molly McCann celebrated knockout with ‘couple of bevvies’ on Dana White’s knee

Molly McCann enjoyed a couple of bevvies on UFC boss Dana White’s knee after her sensational knockout of Luana Carolina in 2022.

Ever since stepping into the octagon six years back, 34-year-old “Meatball” McCann has ridden an emotional wave from dishing out Subway sandwiches to serving up knockouts. With a rocky start in 2018, McCann faced defeat by submission from Gillian Robertson, but quickly turned the tide with a trio of victories against Priscila Cachoeira, Ariane Lipski, and Diana Belbita in her flyweight campaign.

She then hit a rough patch with consecutive losses to Talia Santos and Lara Fritzen, but McCann bounced back – registering a win over Ji Yeon Kim come September 2021. McCann’s name was high on the bill for her appearance at London’s O2 Arena as the UFC roared back after a three-year absence in March 2022 – ready to face off against Carolina with a rowdy home crowd in her corner.

The bout was a blinder from start to finish, with McCann lobbing leather until the ref waved it off in the third round following a breath-taking KO. With just three minutes remaining, Carolina attempted a weak inside leg kick which McCann cleverly anticipated – seizing her opponent’s limb before closing the gap.

The pair were briefly entangled before McCann ducked down, spun and landed a clean elbow on Luana, sending her tumbling towards the mat completely unconscious, reports the Mirror. McCann burst into celebration as London’s O2 exploded with cheers, leaving the cage to circle around to White and hug him.

However, that wasn’t the last encounter McCann had with the UFC president that night. Speaking to Mirror Sport about the knockout, McCann recalled: “It was like a lifetime’s work all rolled into one moment. It was like too good to be true – honestly like scoring the winner of a Champion’s League final or like when Chloe Kelly scored for the Lionesses to win the Euros.

“Just one of them absolute amazing moments. Indescribable I suppose.” She then quipped: “I went and had a couple of bevvies on Dana White’s knee because I couldn’t f***ing believe it.” While McCann had ended fights prior to the 2022 event in London – various TKOs through ground and pound – her effort against Carolina marked the first time she had officially knocked another fighter out cold.

And it wouldn’t be the last time that McCann would score with an acrobatic elbow either. The UFC returned to the same venue just months later, following the success of their previous event. Meatball was once again on the card, this time facing off against all-American Hannah Goldy in a bout that didn’t make it past the first round.

McCann came out swinging from the start, backing Goldy up to the cage with about a minute left in the first round before launching a spinning elbow identical to the one she previously found success with. The blow landed squarely on her opponent’s face, causing Goldy to buckle slightly, before McCann unleashed a flurry of heavy blows to the head – knocking Goldy down and continuing to land further shots until referee Herb Dean intervened to stop the fight.
