Brits weirdest pizza toppings named – together with jam and scotch eggs

Brits are taking the pizza – with thousands slathering their crusts in pork pies, a full English and even jam.

Other strange toppings include beef wellington, fish and chips, cornish pasties and scotch eggs. Chicken tikka, steak and kidney and a roast dinner were also named as top flavours.

A survey by The Pizza Company found 24% wanted the contents of a full English breakfast on their pizza. Around 23% opted for chicken tikka and a Sunday Roast, with 22% wanting fish and chips.

Those in the South West said they wanted a Cornish Pasty on top, while in Yorkshire, 14% would add pork pies.

Others shunned savoury flavours and said they wanted sweet pizzas, with 8% saying jam would be their top choice.

Younger people were by far the most inclined to experiment with 90% saying they would customise their pizzas with great British flavours, compared with 73% of people aged over 55.

Younger generations were the most likely to scoff unusual flavours than those over 55, who preferred traditional toppings.

Andy Collins, of The Pizza Company, said: “We know at Pizza Co that you can’t go wrong with traditional pizza toppings, which is why our Big Cheese and Pepperoni Party remain firm favourites in our range.

“That said, and as our survey shows, people also like a bit of a flavour adventure, which is why we like to offer customers something fun and different with our Special Guest pizza range.

“English breakfast or Steak and Kidney pie pizza might not be for everyone, but we always like to listen to our customers and incorporate new ideas into our range.”
