Jermaine Jenas explosive rows along with his spouse

Jermaine Jenas has revealed he and his wife Ellie Penfold attended couples therapy after a series of explosive rows last year.

The presenter, who has admitted sending inappropriate texts to women at the BBC, says he has ‘let myself down’ as he revealed his 13 year marriage is on the rocks.

However it seems tensions within the relationship had been brewing for a while after he previously revealed he and his wife received couples therapy in a bid to work through their struggles.

As Jermaine, 41, began spending more time socialising with his One Show colleagues, Ellie was at home with their children.

He told The Sun: ‘It was all glitzy, but for my wife, it was like nappies, milk. I am a very hands-on dad and I’m always trying to help but, still, she wasn’t getting that fulfilment in her own life.’

Opening up about seeking help, he said: ‘It was for marriage stuff really. We’ve done some work together in the past. But that’s my wife’s business, if I’m totally honest with you. I prefer not to really go into that.

‘We’ve been together about 15 years now. And it takes work, you know, throughout the whole process.’

The couple have been married since 2011 and share three daughters Geneva, 11,  and Olivia, eight, and a two-year-old son Jacob.

The defiant has said he is ‘ashamed’ and ‘deeply sorry’ – admitting to ‘frantically’ sexting a woman for 24 hours after she gave him her number at a work event.

The scandal-ridden broadcasting corporation fired Jermaine in an excruciating video call – while he was on a family holiday in Marbella, Spain, with his wife Ellie and their three children.

However he went on to confess he lied to his wife after being informed of the allegations to ‘find a way out of this mess’.

But he told the publication he isn’t a ‘sex pest’ and he has to defend himself.

Meanwhile Ellie has kicked him out of the bedroom and the pair are no longer on speaking terms.

The ex-footballer said he has a tendency to ‘self-sabotage’ his own relationship, saying that sexting other woman may not have been a physical form of cheating but he still considers it an unfaithful act.

It comes after an insider claimed the texts were ‘completely over the line’ and the former footballer ‘doesn’t have a leg to stand on’ over the ‘flirty texts’ that led to him being sacked.

Jermaine was let go by the corporation after women complained about his workplace conduct and a junior member of staff – said to have been previously impressed by the BBC star – raised concerns over alleged flirty texts.

The corporation acted ‘swiftly and decisively’ because ‘the BBC cannot be seen to be slow to take action’, a source claimed.

The BBC informed staff of their decision to let him go after the story had already been made public by news outlets.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up.’

He was last on air for the corporation earlier in the summer.

Meanwhile The Sun has reported that Rylan Clark is the front runner to step in for him in coming weeks.

The publication claims that according to BetIdeas, former X Factor star Rylan, 35, is favourite to replace Jermaine with odds of 9/2.

Lee Astley, spokesperson for BetIdeas, said: ‘The news of Jermaine Jenas’ sacking from The One Show on BBC has kickstarted the rumour mill on who will replace him as a permanent host, with Rylan Clark a solid chance in the betting.

‘Rylan, a man well-versed in the world of television presenting with stints on ITV‘s This Morning and the Eurovision Song Contest, has been given odds of 9/2 to assume the vacancy left by Jenas as a presenter on BBC’s hit chat show.’

The bookies’ also have good odds on both Olympic gold medalist Tom Daley taking the job, along with Morning Live’s Gethin Jones.
