Exact date new heatwave maps flip crimson with 29C scorcher to strike Britain

A new weather map shows that a heatwave is expected to sweep over Britain in the coming days, with temperatures set to rise to 30C.

Brits suffered a wet August bank holiday weekend, with the North west of England being hit particularly hard with Storm Lilian. However, new weather readings show areas of high pressure will provide the country with a scorching week.

Forecasters say the weather map will turn dark red over the UK on Wednesday afternoon, especially across East of England and Southeast England. The warmest areas are set to enjoy temperatures of 29 all week, reports the Mirror.

Areas including Lincolnshire, will bask in 29C heat and the sunshine remains on Thursday – albeit less warm. The weather maps show other highs of 28C across the East Midlands and 27C in the Home Counties on Wednesday.

The Met Office says it is “turning drier by Wednesday” because the start of this week is likely to be wet. North west of England will see showers on Monday and downpours are likely from south Wales to West Yorkshire on Tuesday.

Writing on its website, the Met Office says: “Changeable at first with rain or showers in places, some heavy and possibly thundery, these most likely in western areas but not exclusively so. Towards the end of the week and into the weekend, high pressure is likely to build over the UK leading to a more widely settled period, which may persist into early September.

“This should offer a reasonable amount of dry weather with sunny spells in places, although possibly more cloud and some occasional patchy rain in the far northwest and just the small chance of the odd shower or thunderstorm elsewhere. Temperatures are likely to be near or above-average overall for this period, with some warm or very warm conditions at times.”

More than 32mm of rain fell throughout Friday across Cumbria, data from the Met Office shows. Some 27mm of rain battered Dundrennan, Dumfries and Galloway, and there were long downpours in Northumberland too.
