Sven-Goran Eriksson’s touching funeral plan as he needs to be buried at ‘residence’

Swedish football legend and former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has passed away aged 76.

Prior to his passing, Amazon Prime aired a touching documentary that opened up on Eriksson’s life, revealing where the legendary boss wanted to be buried – a serene spot he fondly called ‘home’.

Eriksson chose a picturesque lakeside near Lake Fryken for his final resting place, not far from the turf of his Sunne birthplace and his Torsby boyhood stomping grounds in western Sweden.

The documentary tenderly captures Eriksson soaking in these nostalgic vistas, flanked by family, as he recounts his kindred spirit with the area, reports the Mirror.

“A beautiful place, [it] makes you calm, makes me calm,” he said reflectively in the documentary. Scanning across the lake, he said with feeling: “Below the mountain [is] where my father grew up.

“If you look straight on, that’s Torsby, where I grew up. I always thought great place, to sleep. The ashes could be thrown into the water here. It feels like home.”

Eriksson, the former England manager who stepped down after the 2006 World Cup, left his role as sporting director at Swedish club Karlstad last year due to health issues. He had been diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer.

Speaking on the documentary, which aired just days before his death, he said: “I had a good life, yes. I think we all are scared of the day when it’s finished, when we die. But the life is about death as well. You have to learn to accept it, of what it is.

“Hopefully at the end, people will say, ‘Yeah, he was a good man’. But everyone will not say that. I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do.

“Don’t be sorry. Smile,” he added. “Thank you for everything – coaches, players, the crowd. It’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself, and take care of your life, and live it. Bye.”
