Crap city struggle as people from ‘worst place’ rejoice not being metropolis’s roughest

Residents who feel their neighbourhood locally gets a bad rap have rejoiced following news of another area nearby being singled out as the “roughest in Birmingham”.

An article published by our sister publication BirminghamLive broke down the highest crime rate neighbourhoods in the West Midlands, which left a member of Erdington jumping for joy to see their neighbourhood omitted from the rankings.

Posting on the Facebook page Erdington Massives, one relieved resident said: “For those who think Erdington is the worst place In Birmingham and keep running it down, your wrong according to this we don’t even get a mention,” followed by a link to BirminghamLive’s coverage.

Certain areas in Birmingham and the Black Country have been analysed by policing zones to highlight which neighbourhoods are more crime-ridden and where locals are more likely to fall victim. Aston takes the crown as Birmingham’s crime hub, according to the most recent data for June 2024. It led the pack for reported crimes that month with a whopping total of 446 – equating to over 10 every day.

Lozells and East Handsworth trailed closely in second place, with South Yardley; Small Heath and Highgate; and Stockland Green also being areas with high crime rates. Areas are ranked based on the total offences reported to West Midlands Police.

These could vary from the most severe, such as murder, rape and violent assaults, to lower level, but still significant, offences like burglary and car theft. Over in the Black Country, West Bromwich has the highest crime rate by a long shot, reports Birmingham Live.

Earlier this month, Balsall Heath was the scene of a savage attack where two men were stabbed. Meanwhile, in Walsall, a teenager fell victim to a brutal home invasion where he was stabbed and his Rolex and gold jewellery were stolen.

This incident followed the tragic shooting of 20 year old Connor Brookes in Blakenhall, Walsall, just a few weeks prior.
