PFA need to finish ‘banishments’ after Sterling was exiled from Chelsea squad

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) are reportedly appauled with Chelsea’s efforts to exile and banish their own senior players from Stamford Bridge.

Over the course of the last five transfer windows, Chelsea have embarked upon a spending spree, jettisoning their pure profit PSR academy graduates to fuel their insatiable appetite for signings. This summer, they have brought in the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

When combined with the previous spending of the four windows prior, the Blues have seen their squad bloat, to the point where with just days left before the transfer market slams shut, they now need to offload players fast.

There are 14 players who are reportedly training away from the Enzo Maresca’s first team at Chelsea, two of which are Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

And it has now been reported the PFA want to see the Premier League and FIFA get tough with Chelsea over their treatment and handling of their exiled contingent of players.

The Mail report the PFA are furious with Chelsea’s implementation of a ‘bomb squad’, with senior sources at the union describing their behaviour as “unacceptable”. The PFA are said to have contacted Chelsea’s exiled players who are not allowed to train under Enzo Maresca.

The ‘bomb squad’ is made up of Chilwell, Sterling, Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Djordje Petrovic, Carney Chukwuemeka, David Datro Fofana, Armando Broja, Angelo Gabriel, Deivid Washington, Alex Matos, Harvey Vale and Lukas Bergstrom.

While Kepa looks to be set to join Bournemouth on-loan, and Lukaku likely to move to Napoli come the end of the transfer window, the futures of the remaining members of Chelsea’s banished players remains unclear.

Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell
Both Sterling and Chilwell have been told they can leave Stamford Bridge

Prior to the start of their campaign, Maresca outlined Chilwell would not have a place in his first team squad, detailing that while said he loved the way he trains, the England international would struggle to find the right positions on the pitch for the style of play he wants to implement at Stamford Bridge.

Then prior to their clash against Manchester City, in what was Maresca’s first competitive game in charge of the Blues, it was revealed Sterling was not a part of the Italian’s plans.

The 29-year-old, who has three years left on his contract, was left out of the Chelsea match day squad entirely, and is said to be open to leaving Stamford Bridge permanently this summer should the right move emerge for the England winger.

However, despite the chaos, and their opening day 2-0 defeat to City, Chelsea bounced back last weekend with an impressive 6-2 win over Wolves.
