Dan Ashworth snubs Man Utd’s £51million signing to thrash out three extra offers

Dan Ashworth stayed put in Manchester to oversee several departures from the club, rather than jetting off to France to finalise a deal for Manuel Ugarte.

After weeks of back-and-forth, Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for 23-year-old Ugarte. The Uruguayan is expected to be the Red Devils’ fifth and last signing of the summer.

Technical director Jason Wilcox and Matt Hargreaves, United’s director of negotiations, flew out to iron out the final details of a deal that could see Erik ten Hag secure his top midfield target for a potential £51million.

Meanwhile, Ashworth, United’s new sporting director, remained in Manchester to wrap up exits for Scott McTominay, Hannibal Mejbri and Jadon Sancho, according to the Daily Mail.

McTominay has attracted interest from clubs both domestically and abroad this summer, and the midfielder is now set to join Napoli for a fee of £26m, reports the Mirror.

Hannibal, another central midfielder, is also on his way out. The 21-year-old is heading to the Championship to join Burnley in their bid for a swift return to the Premier League, in a deal worth around £9.4m.

While there is currently no deal in place for Sancho to leave Old Trafford, Chelsea and Juventus have shown interest – and Ashworth is expected to lead the negotiations for any potential exit.

Amid transfer buzz, it’s been revealed that United and Chelsea are weighing up a swap deal with Raheem Sterling potentially joining the Red Devils as Sancho heads the other way.

Sterling could be away from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea head honcho Enzo Maresca didn’t mince words about Sterling’s future at Stamford Bridge, leaving him out of the fray in the 2-0 drubbing by Manchester City on opening day.

Maresca tackled questions about his “brutal” approach, saying: “Brutal? I don’t think so. I try to be honest. I can repeat again if it’s not clear: I spoke with Raheem before the City game. I said he is going to struggle to get minutes with us and this is the reason why he is out of the squad.

“With Chilly, I said he is a lovely guy, but he is going to struggle because of his position. He is going to struggle. If you define this as brutal, it’s up to you to decide. For me, it’s not brutal, it’s just honest.”
